I moved a neighborhood with no privacy and noise ordinance, so I was thinking of converting my daughters Birel Kid Kart to run on a Drill, temporarily for driveway use. I figure the speed will be low and I can make a small track with the mass of kart tires and plastic containers. I found a couple youtube videos for inspiration, I am not going to weld or modify the chassis because the plan is when she turns 6 we will replace it with gas engine. I have pretty much all the parts needed except rigging up a driver. The bicycle video I like the idea of just having the driver on a bolt and then sliding it, then using a zip tie and throttle cable for throttle play. Anybody have better ideas for a temp setup?

This is a great idea (though the drill may not have enough power).

I've had similar thoughts with a beat up sawzall. I'd be taking it apart since it is no more use as an actual sawzall. They are nice because the battery, charger, throttle (trigger), motor, and power electronics are all already engineered for you. So as long as the gearing is such that the tool can move the vehicle, you're just moving stuff around and lengthening wires.

Some of the bigger power tools out now are going to make this quite interesting (mowers and snowblowers for example).

Relevant to my interests...

I've seen the Razor Crazy Carts online and they look like a bunch of fun just for goofing off, but I'm not paying $500 for new on something that's already more sized for kids. I'd like to build an adult sized version, but a gas engine seems like overkill still, so I have tossed around the idea of drill power.

I think it probably all comes down to gearing vs. speed, which it sounds like you want fairly low speed anyway, and for myself the Crazy Carts seem fairly low speed too.

My students make these, using a starter motor, car battery, and boat trailler wobble rollers.

The on/off throttle takes some getting used to.
