No definitive answer as to why, he just said he decided this was his last show, while MSNBC says it decided not to renew his contract.

i'm sure the Keith Olberman sex tape will be on TMZ within a week, and MSNBC cut him loose to avoid bad publicity...
In reply to racerfink:
Maybe I'm wrong, but I thought he had recently renewed a multi-year contract. Olberman's show was consistently the highest rated show of all of MSNBC's nightly line-up, too.
With imminent change in ownership and the management changes that have already occurred, the real reason(s) are probably buried in the small print of a long legal document. At least until some "anonynous source" leaks the details.

I'd pay good money...
Ah, another ass hole who makes money trying to tell us that we're left or right instead of reminding us all that we're Americans. Good riddance. Hope Rush Beck follow close behind. There's plenty of folks outside the US trying to bring us down. Don't need to be paying them from the inside.
Take care,
Ed

Hey! We don't need this kind of BS!
HUNDREDS will be upset...

I like that slant. Well put.
I don't have cable.
But I watch Democracy NOW! on my roku box.. I like Amy Goodman's style.. Less yelling confrontational, more facts, less hyperbole.. Though she is a little rough on the eyes..
She's also a proper journalist and not entertainers like the rest.. Olbermann, Rush, beck, Maddow..

A bit strong there
"HUNDREDS will take notice..."
You mean MSNBC has/had other programming besides Lockup: [insert jail here]?
I am really confused now.....
It's a bit sad to see Olberman ousted. He and compatriots (Maddow, Matthews and Schulz) provided an interesting foil to opinions proferred on FoxNews shows.
But, cable news is all about profits (actual news is secondary) and MSNBC isn't exactly a cash cow. The former management team decided to become the anti-Fox network and failed; the audience just wasn't there. Can anyone say, "AirAmerica"?
We'll just have to wait and see what Comcast does when it takes control.
Good riddance. Now take that Rachel Maddow runt, that smarmy litte Anderson Vanderbilt pansy, O'Reilly's "I love freedom, assuming what you do and say fits within the parameters of what I think is acceptable," punk-a**, and leave me Stossel and Stewart.

I've watched that a bit. I go back and forth between them being an interesting perspective and them being batE36 M3 crazy, but regarless, it's still better than Olberbeckanity.

After all his "investigative" journalism on 20/20; I have a hard time taking him seriously.
I do watch Maddow for the entertainment value.

I will just leave this hear..
In reply to Ignorant:
I watched the first 44 seconds only, and I agree the Military Commissions Act is reprehensible. Most people have never heard of it. My problem with people like Olberman is that he was really mad about this when Bush was in the White House, but then Obama gets in there and the law still stands. It is not repealed. It is no longer an issue apparently. If he continued to complain about in the last 2 years, then I'll give him some credit. I couldn't stand to watch his show. (As others have already pointed out, Olberman's counterparts on the right do the same exact things all the time. When Bush was doing bailouts it was ok and a necessary evil, when Obama does them it is socialism.) Watching any of these blowhards on tv or listening to them on the radio will ony give you a twisted and distorted picture of reality.

agreed, but to be fair, not many others went nuts about the MCA in a public forum. Sometimes, you have to listen to these guys to get conversations started.
Fair point. Imagine the outcry from the right wing radio contingent if Obama was President and signed the MCA into law? It was, and is, a disgusting law that would be enough, by itself, for many of the founding fathers to not recognize the country they fought to create. Between this and the PATRIOT Act, it is amazing that anyone still buys that we are the land of the free. (We have the highest incarceration rate of any country in the world BTW.)
