And that's why I love science.
At first, I was just in it for the probing too... but then I saw they were really on to something big with all the questioning stuff and finding real answers and so forth.
What I don't understand is why people are so irritated by others having differing thoughts, opinions, and beliefs. Threads like these are started purely to mock others. In this case, it the usual, "Ha, ha! Look at the silly Christians. Look how silly they are." Yes, and? This is GRM and there is apparently a weekly Christian-bashing quota, but is it really news to anyone that a Christian would object to the theory of evolution? So, what's the angle here? Oh, they have different beliefs. Shocking. Whether labeled "interesting" or otherwise, these topics serve only one base purpose. What's the payoff here? They're dumb and I'm smart? Surely that can't be it.

The moon hoaxers are toast. The whole steady advancement in photography (you know, not from science but just more umm... spaghetti monster ordained lenses) has sent them scurrying for new fish to fry.
I can only hope they move on to fluoride mind control.

This isn't to mock christians. Look back a few posts. It is to mock idiots. The blissfully ignorant. Tools. Tools who can stifle the education of others and make them tools like themselves.
A christian created Newton's Laws of (berkeleying everything). only an idiot denies evident truths to forward an ideology.
EDIT: Offensive rebuke omitted.
I posted this to point out the idiocy going on in KY from the leaders in KY.
It really isn't ok to be stupid and then to use your stupid to make other people ignorant. You can sing the praises of Jesus while still acknowledging that DNA can be demonstrably transformed by selective breeding or to conceded that the existence of a nuclear reactor pretty much makes 6000 years a berkeleying drop in the bucket.
I know a lot of smart christian people who walk that line. Ditch the Jesus/Dinosaur coloring book and open your mind.

I don't think that's the case. I think everyone (okay, not everyone, but most people) don't really care what other people want to believe. Knock yourself out. I think the perception is that some people want to thrust their beliefs into places where they don't belong. You can believe God created the Earth just as it says in Genesis. You can believe that it's all an illusion and you're just the psychotic delusion of a far superior being. You can believe that we're on a grain of sand lodged in the eye of a great Bohemut. That's all fine. But please don't try to teach that in a classroom and call it "science". It simply is not.

And you missed the point. What do you gain in mocking others; presenting an "interesting" story with no real interesting or new ideas? Christian, fat kids, gay...whatever. What's the point to this? A man marry's a shoe - that's interesting. Christians and Atheists disagree - and?
And for the record, I don't feel slighted in any way. I feel disappointed that people find these topics interesting and obviously get something out of mocking people.

That isn't what this is about. I am a Christian. This is Christians and Christians disagree. And your comment is indicative of the problem. As said before, many, maybe most Christians (certainly most of you are talking about the world, not just America) "believe" in evolution. I put "believe" in quotes because it's not a belief system per-se. It's an acceptance of reality.
In reply to Apis_Mellifera:
GPS and fast_eddie_72 covered a lot of what I was going to say, and probably better.
I would add one thing: The reason that I poke my head up when stuff like this happens is to make it clear that I am counted among those who think it's not okay to silence attempts to understand things. I don't want to be counted as being tacitly approving of the Kentucky legislators because I didn't say I wasn't.

What comment? I'm not even talking about the topic. I'm just curious about motives. This is conquered ground, yet here we are on page four.
In reply to Apis_Mellifera:
Post of the day. I can go on, but I'll just say I'm beginning to lose interest with GRM's "OffTopic" section.

This is got to be one of the biggest bunches of bologna I've ever read regarding Christians.
In reply to Apis_Mellifera:
The one I quoted. Christians who believe in literal Genesis Creation are a minority who insist on claiming the title "Christian". That is the problem. They do not speak for me and millions of other Christians. I'd really appreciate it if they would stop giving a whole load of things that I believe and are an indelible part of who I am a bad name. We're not all fanatical fundamentalists. Some of us are just looking for an example of how to live this life.

I totally get that you are probably a troll but I'm going to stand on your neck and type more E36 M3 anyway.
A generation of biologists without any knowledge of how Evolution works should frighten everyone.
When a person accepts the responsibility of public office they should be educated enough to know when they are berkeleying a whole generation out of the tools they need to compete with people who have taken facts that are true and demonstrable for granted their whole lives.
You said "Christians and Atheists disagree - and?". They disagree about god. Not facts. I just microwaved some popcorn from a grid supplied by nuclear power. Then I walked past my domesticated dog( rat terrier), some plastic and a bone-fide berkeleying radio controlled helicopter flown by a 10yr old. I don't want you leading us back to the dark ages where my E36 M3 is running thru a ditch in the street so I am damn well going to ridicule idiots when I see them multiplying.
berkeley you troll.

You should read more.

I can care less about some poll.

Remind me not to make you angry.

You can't handle the truth... and you can't reed good.
If you can't get past the idea of someone questioning the the purpose of the topic rather than the topic itself, then you may as well go thump your chest some more - I'm very impressed.
I don't really care what the topic is. I'm just bored of the same old same old, unoriginal, uninteresting, and completely covered in the many posts made on the same subjects (religion, politics, sexual preference) year after year after year. What else do you have?

Have you heard Justin Bieber's new single? It totally makes up for his inability to please sexy Selena Gomez as a woman.
Is that the sort of controversy you were looking for?
At least that topic hasn't been beaten to death ...and I hope it never is.

All this foreplay... post some pics. I am fully engorged. I'm not opposed to E36 M3ting in a ditch for the right troll :)
The question of whether or not humanity should continually pursue a useful, technical understanding of how the world works beyond what the spiritual books say is incredibly pertinent.
It is sometimes uncomfortable. It is sometimes confrontational. It is sometimes hackneyed. It frequently sounds like the same set of words from both sides and the middle.
But it is nothing if not important.

Ignoring the very obvous reed part....
There's a subject on a tax problem. There's a subject on pictures. There's a subject on a Z purchase. There's a subject on ignoring. there's a subject on GM. Wheels, purchase rip off, BMW's, songs that are wrongly used.
There's SO much here to read, you focus on this thread?
For all that is here to read, there's a lot of reasons that you don't have to read this thread. I'm only posting now that your problem seems rather absurd.
