Anyone with experience or recommendations?
If the pay-to-use computer in the Venice train station (or airport, I don't remember) is really choppy, it probably has one. Don't use it and especially don't check your email (that shares a password with your paypal account). Yeah, I know, dumb on all accounts, but it happened, and someone spent a bunch of my money. I did eventually get it back, though.
I used one on my desktop a few years back. It was one that plugged in to the keyboard port and then the keyboard plugged into it. Worked like a charm.

I'm assuming that you share this computer with someone at home. You should check the legality of it if someone has permission to use your computer, if this person is an adult (read: spouse.)

There may be legal issues (if you were to want to use it in court) depending on how you are involved in the matter.
If you're not going to court with it, it doesn't really matter.
Watching this thread - but to try to diagnose a computer that's not recognizing a press of the Pause/Break button from any keyboard that's hooked up to it.
Don't know what platform you're looking for, and I haven't used them myself, but there are several on Sourceforge.
There are plenty. I'll second checking on sourceforge. But, I do believe this falls under wiretapping. If catching your kids..fine. your spouse? probably not allowable in court by any means.
Another vote for Sourceforge. That is usually the first place I check when needing software for something.
