This has probably been asked before, but maybe not.
A friend of mine has a really cool opportunity to do something that the vast majority of us here would give our left nut, or left fallopian-tube, to be able to do... And he wants to use that opportunity to raise awareness for a really good cause.
Problem is, it will cost him money to make this happen.
From what I've read on their site, Kickstarter is for "artistic"projects. Is this true?
Or is it possible to do something to raise some $$ for someone to race a TA-2 Camaro at Daytona, for a good cause?
Not trying to be canoe-ish, just looking for ways to help a friend pursue two of the top-3 passions in his life.
Yep, anything is possible on there. Have him find a REALLY good videographer. That is part of how to make the Bucks. Good causes seem to do well. Check out 7th gay adventist on there. What sort of money is he needing?
Yeah, he's got a good video crew to not only document the cause that he's racing for, but also to tie it into his own experience of suffering a TBI at Mid-Ohio after he took a driver's-side pancake hit into a concrete wall in his gt-3 Miata.
Money-wise, I'm actually surprised at how "little" it is to run a TA/2 car... For him to run the Daytona weekend, the bare-minimum would be about 12k... Not including crash-deposit and other miscellaneous expenses.
That is not a kickerstarter project. That is a fund my race team and I will make a video project which almost never gets funded and by some reading of the terms will get kicked.

wearymicrobe is right.
That violates Kickstarter's guidelines.
You can't raise money for causes on Kickstarter, you can't start businesses, and you can't use it for capital funding for ongoing ventures.
It is for projects only.
Here are their guidelines:

With all the emphasis on TBI's in athletics, etc, it seems like it would be easy to get a sponsor to fund something like this.
How about a sporting goods chain? A speed shop? A performance manufacturer?
$12K entry is a stupid low price. A full page magazine ad in a national publication could cost twice that.
I would approach the marketing department of a medium sized automotive industry company and use it as exposure for them based on the good will it generates.
There may be such a company on this site.

Yeah, that's pretty much what I thought. He has some options he's looking at, and I'm going to approach the Managing Director where I work.
Our parent corporation has sponsored race teams in various European series, so this may be an avenue to get them involved here in the States.
