Daughter is 8 years old. She just recently expressed interest in a watch that counts steps. My guess is a class mate has similar.
But, Christmas is near...
I know there are some kid related items that have gps track capability too. I really don't think I want the whole Apple watch for an elementary kid; besides we are more on the Google eco-system anyway. Neither the wife or I do the FitBit thing but again, Christmas is around the corner for wife gift too. So, it could be good if the adult and child units are co-compatible.
What do you know? Experiences?
We just got my 6yo a Gabb watch. It does calls and limited texting and tracking. He cannot call/text anyone who isn't in the contact list I control from my phone. Verizon network. As far as I know, it doesn't do any apps or programs, so maybe not quite what you're after... but as a way to contact or trace a kid it seems to be pretty good.
What's the goal? Just plain counting steps is enough to get the kid moving - my nephew will get up early to literally run around the living room so he can rack up more steps than his brother. And that'll have a longer battery life and be cheaper than something with a SIM card. You have to figure it's going to live a hard life - although that's based on boys, not girls :)
I'd get something that matches her style and don't worry about logging or ecosystems or tracking. If it's just about counting steps, it only has to give her a high score every day. If she wants to train for something and watch her heart rate zones, that's different.
Gabb watch is currently $0 with a subscription. I have a Gabb phone. Is great for kids
