Trlby used to be the bomb. Do a youtube search for trlby kite. I had a triple green pack that I got good enough with that I could snap the tails like a wet towel.

Bulletproof, cheap (under $20 for a single) and tons of fun. They're discontinued after something like 40 years, but you can still find them out there for not too much money.

Here is a link to Dyna which has a ton of kites, including their own. They are listed by skill level, too.

Another one that seems to get some attention is kites by Prism.

I think there is an app now for flying kites so no need for real kites.

I imagine that Amazon has all you need.

Depends on what you want-- www.intothewind.com sells really nice stuff.

Some of the smaller parafoils are pretty much indestructible, but they can pull really hard. They also have something called a "Hata" that was one of the simplest, nicest flying kites I've had.

There was a rack of kites at REI when I was there earlier today. They usually don't sell totally throw-away items, so I'd bet they aren't cheap, but are probably built to survive at least a season of music festival use...

I bought a traditional box kite by NewTech kites a few years back at Atlantic Beach in NC. Thing pulls like a beast. I always seem to forget to pack it, so it sits in my garage.

No way! Discontinued?!!

I sold a ton of those when I was managing a hobby shop. Flew quite a few of them as well.

I'm sorry to hear that. Nothing was cooler than a stack of Trilby's tearing up the sky.

I have a vintage Skynasaur F36 stunt kite I got in the late 80's/early 90's....awesome tough little 2 string stunt kite. Company long out of business, but made very capable and well built kites:
