Some of you say hero, but regardless of how he might be saving your ears it's still someone else's property he is f'ing with and there isn't a doubt in my mind that if I caught someone vandalizing someone else's car I wouldn't roundhouse kick him in the face. Even if it is a ricer, a crappy modification to the car, someone put time and $ into it and in their eyes it's their pride and joy. I sure as hell know if someone did something to any one of my cars they might be going off into shadow land.
Ya, that's what I was thinking. Don't forget that in the eyes of most of the rest of the world WE are EXACTLY THE SAME as the "boy racers." Would the same person go litter an autocross lot with rusty nails because he didn't like the noise? Doesn't seem like a big stretch to me.
I submit that this "vigilante" is an arsehole. If he were standing next to me and on fire, I wouldn't waste my drink to put him out.

I'm with Jay. The rule remains: no matter what the circumstances, you never mess with another man's car. Unless they're blocking the left lane going 5 under and you have missile launchers in your front bumper.

That is very true. Especially over here in the UK there seems to be a lot of backlash against any sort of motorsports. Also, keep in mind that to the general public (who don't give an E36 M3 about driving because it's just something they have to do to get from A to be B and it's not something they can or want to enjoy) there is no difference between the various car subcultures. And while we might laugh at ricers, they're as serious about their cars as we are even if we don't like their modifications.

It depends if the fire affected the temperature of the beer you're holding, surely.
It's vandalism, period. If I caught someone behind my car with a can of foam it would be emptied ITB until it came out their ears.
OTOH if you're a NZ guy you can be assured of getting a pretty used girlfriend. If yours is not as experienced, someone out ther is getting one with 40+ partners.
Gotta go, my skanks need walking....
In reply to 914Driver:
+1 million, to not messing with someone elses car. That is about the most chickenE36 M3 thing you can possibly do.
Even people I dispise I would never mess with their cars. Maybe it is because I'm a car guy, but I see this as akin to horse thevery in the 19th century, nobody wanted to get caught as a horse thief, because it was a hanging offense. Mainly because the horse was so vital to survival both in transportation and in earning a living, which comes to the second basic rule, never mess with another persons livelyhood.

on the one hand I agree about messing with other peoples cars
on the other the group of teenyboppers with unmuffled VW's that race up and down the road behind my house at 2-3am on weeknights are BEGGING for that treatment
I'm of the opinion you shouldn't mess with another guys car. If it's got an obnoxious exhaust, there's no rule that you can't introduce the driver to a Louisville Slugger.
Jeebus Christ. The words "lighten up" come to mind.

I don't think the perp would float too well.
There's some D-bag in my neighbourhood who comes home at 2:00am or earlier in a Civic with a too-loud fart can.
He wakes me up but I doubt I'd go as far as messing with his car.
I bet my neighbours don't really care for a Trans-Am with straight pipes either but we leave each other alone.

I think this thread "went there" and actually came back.
I wonder if expanding foam would make my motorcycle less loud...god knows it needs it.

If you use enough it should make no sound at all :)
Shawn
More likely that the noise from the exhaust will be replaced by loud swearing noises from the owner.
Call that an improvement?
