I am working on my 40 Chev 1/2 ton (327/350 trans) The knee actions shocks are basically a lever/cam driven spring in a piston/cylinder setup with some fluid. Does anyone know what type of fluid should be used? 30W oil or?

I remember that old junk, thank someone for inventing the TELESCOPIC shock.
i owned many of them cars,not a single one ever handled a corner at more than 20mph, the tires would roll off the rims, they layed over so much.
some actually wore out the side walls more the tread.
glad thats past, we started to add additional telescopics, by 1955.

I've seen several of his rebuilds. Good stuff! Also, I've had not so great results from Apple myself.
Knee action and lever shocks are similar but entirely different, Knee action is part of the suspension and turns with the wheel when "cornering". Both probably work on the same principal. In the early days of sports car racing with the lever shocks the stock fluid was replaced with heavy oil in order to stiffen them.
