Its sort of a long story- the short version is I found them hilarious and they came in neo chrome.

Unfortunately, when driving in traffic in an older car, the space other drivers allow you to leave between you and the car in front of you often isn't sufficient to be able to stop comfortably when someone makes a max effort stop in a brand new car.

If you're in traffic here and you leave a gap big enough for a car, someone will cut you off. Sometimes they so it even when they don't have the room.

Pretty much this. Plus I had a guy on my ass in some sort of jacked up.E36 M3box of a truck with some Chinese as berkeley hids blinding me- so the odds were not ever in my favor.

They should have a very similar braking distance if you have decent tires... which it appears you may have had, but certainly do not anymore
When you said rumble strips, I was thinking on a road course, not on the street. And honestly, those lugnuts seemed a little inappropriate for track use.

That's how I discovered there was a problem. I figured I'd gotten some pea gravel stuck in it (the gravel was from the shoulder, theve been "improving" the road there) or a little flat spot. When I stuck my hand in there and felt that, I knew it was a bit more serious. Visuals confirmed. I was rather impressed at the efficient effort that the shoulder took to destroying my tire.
Rumble strips mean you are not supposed to be there.
It was an evasion situation.
If the rumble strip are painted and it's wet, you won't slow down

Well the actual stop sounded a lot like running over a rumble strip and gravel flinging all over my car. The ensuing drive was spectacularly loud though.
