The A/C adapter for my laptop is dead. Gateway wants $70, everyone else seems to want $25. Is there a preferred/trusted online retailer from the GRM community?

I got mine off of ebay for @ $10. It only took 5 weeks for it to arrive. Make sure whoever sells it ships from somewhere in the US.

I have had good experiences with www.tigerdirect.com and www.newegg.com. You might want to try www.amazon.com as well.

I bought one last week for $10.18 through Amazon from MP3Technology. Fast shipping (2 or 3 days by mail) and works great. Same brand as my original. No complaints.

$25 isn't bad, I paid $15 from the computer recycling shop (www.comprenew.com) and picked up.

check around used computer and recycling shops.

I use an iGo adapter because I can use it with different computers and even charge my cell at the same time I am powering the computer. It also comes with adapters to run the laptop in the car or on a plane. Not as cheap as the other alternatives, but worth it in my opinion.

I tend to buy stuff like that on ebay. Might be worth seeing if someone is selling a dead one of the same model Gateway you have and keep the dead laptop for spares. Unless it's got a dead PSU, obviously.
