had an argument with a buddy about this. They were both being aggressive but I think Jorg pushed it a little to far at the end causing Jan to go into the marbles and then destruction. Never have been a huge Bergmiester fan as he just comes off as an arrogant turd, but thats my own opinion. Was good racing to watch though!
Was glad to see them finish as they did and that ALMS has left it that way. That attempt at a BS NASCAR move was a bit much.

To which NASCAR move are you referring?
When Jan punted Jorg in the last turn of the last lap, or when Jorg forced Jan into the wall before the finish line?
BTW, both drivers on are probation for the first two races of 2010. The fireworks start at race three.
Next year's GT class battles may easily eclipse the prototypes.
i think they let the Lizards have it since it was similar to Sebring 07 and the Ferrari did the same thing and there was no penalty...
EDIT: from what i just heard, Bergmiester and Magunessen both have 2 race bans for the last lap maylay...
The ALMS race was the only highlight of a lousy Sunday for me (bedridden with a cold, Red Sox and Patriots lost), then I saw the last lap of the race. The P1 vs. P2 and GT2 battles were incredible to watch, but the Corvette smacking the wall was not the way I wanted to see the race end. Esp. since I root for Corvette.
Should make for a very interesting season next year, though.

I was very glad to see Jorg didn't put-up with it- I'd do the same thing. Nice to see Jan uninjured, but now enjoyable to see him hit the wall as a result of his own actions.
They'd been saying all race long about how determined Corvette Racing was to win the final race. In addition to Jan's moves such as short-cutting across Pit Out in the last couple of laps, you also had O'Connell doing things like forcing another Porsche off coming out of 1. Was great to see them fail after seeing how they attempted to win.
I don't want to see ALMS resort to some of the penalties that GrandAm does, but I also don't buy into running into someone when you're not fast enough.
I didn't get to see the race, but it looked to me like the porsche parked it on that last corner. The bump from the corvette didn't seem intentional. Running the guy into the wall is a bit much though, I agree, run him to the wall, but not into it.
That was freakin awesome
I love when racing is...well...RACING!
Bergmiester was definitely faster into the braking zone, he barely touched the Porsche on the exit, even though the announcers made it seem like a NASCAR move.
It was obvious the Corvette's torque had the advantage out of the slower corners, and Jorg pushed him into the wall to get him to back down.
I'd give it to Bergmiester, although he was being a bit too pushy, he was still faster.
Good officiating.. Let the race stand, the Corvette driver tried to spin the Porsche and so the Porsche driver shoved him into the wall, but the whole deal was too hot so penalize both of them next year. Big hairy fun!! (since no one got hurt).
I watched the broadcast on Sunday, and just now watched online for the first time. To make this all a bit more interesting it needs to include the previous couple of laps- the one where Jan shortcut across Pit Out to get in front of Jorg (and was forced to give it back), and the one where he hip-checked Jorg into the gravel coming out of 1. Yes, pretty much how Jorg then did back to him on this link.

You'll have to explain how you even begin to see anything resembling 'parking' by the Porsche. There isn't a moment's hesitation in the car the entire sweep of that corner. I just ran that thing back and forth 20 times and he never hesitate for even a second. If the amount they have to slow coming into that corner is what you're referring to- it's the corner- it's that sharp.
It just looked like the corvette was carrying a lot more speed through the corner. The porsche looked like he slowed down more than necessary and blocked the line.
Anybody else think that the positioning of the epitrochoid in RexSeven's avatar makes it look like that shamrock has a vagina?
It's a stretch I know, but for some reason it always makes me double-take when I see it.
yes i see it.
and the corvette was obviously faster than the porsches all weekend, Jorg had been blocking him and blocking him and blocking him....which is why I believe Jan resorted to using extra space on teh track to finally get around him, and when he did he started pulling away to over a second lead by the time they reached the top of the hill.

shamrock? i thought it was a teddy bearess with a really bad yeast infection.
At an IMSA race , Grand Prix of Miami, our car was being blocked by a slower car. Tight track, difficult to pass. After a number of laps of this, crew chief complained to the race officials. He was told "That's racing" Next lap, our driver put the jerk into the wall hard right in front of the officials. When they complained, they were told "That's racing".

I hope I'm not the only one that thinks your a...we'll just say "shinny happy person"..for writing that. You enjoy seeing someone smack the wall at speed? That's just sick.
IMO, the only dirty move Jan made was pass on pit out, and even then he wasn't putting anyone in danger the way Jorg did at the finish. Hip check out of turn 1? Were we watching the same race? There were several times Jan backed off after the hairpin when he could have kept his foot in it. I'll agree that Jorg didn't park it in turn 10, he was taking the defensive (slower) line, but the bump from Jan wasn't dirty either, he didn't come close to spining Jorg. That's just hard racing on both their parts.
And the deal about not being fast enough to pass, did you see how much of a gap Jan put on Jorg after the pit out pass? He clearly had the faster car.
In the end, Jorg should have been suspended for making the only truly dangerous (and dirty) move there at the finish running the Corvette in to the wall. No question Jan should be on probation for the pit out pass too.
don't understand the 2 race penalty being handed out to both of them...
Bergmiester should be suspended for 2 races not on probation... that looked like (to me ... but what do I know ) a serious attempt to hurt someone
don't know about the pit out pass deserving a probation... didn't see it, was at the NCAC , but last lap business of Bergmiester's deserves more than a slap on the wrist...
just my 2¢ worth
i met the Flying Lizard people in 2007, Road america , also 2008,
my opinion they are a bunch of jerks, arrogant shiny happy people, came close to a fight in stands, and pits. just dont like people who think they are better than everyone else. and try to shove it down your throat.
Corvette will kick there ass next yr.
If you take out everything after turn 10 on the last lap, it was a great battle. Right up there with the GT2 finish at Sebring a couple years ago. The Corvette had a ton of grip and was making some great moves. To counter, Jorg drove a perfect defensive race those last couple of laps until he put Jan in the wall.
I think this will be my last year watching F1 for a while. That ALMS race just reminded me of what it should be about. At least I can start sleeping in on Sundays.
