Ironically, almost everything that we associate with a Jeep was created by Ford. From the flat front fenders to the front grill stamping designed by Ford to speed up production to the Ford internal designation of GP.  Even the flat front windshield was on the Ford prototype.  Google the Ford Pigmy GP-1, it truly is the first Jeep.

Not necessarily a deal breaker, but this kinda sucks. You can get a Rubicon with a stick. Hopefully, they change their minds on this.

Yes, Bantam won the competition due to bringing a more powerful engine; arguably outside the scope of the requirements. However, the oldest prototype is the Ford. 

Visually, the Ford prototype is what actually became the Jeep and the GP name is the root of the "Jeep" nickname. 

If you go with ownership, Willys copyrighted the name before anyone else which I guess counts, but they certainly don't get the credit for creating the name or the iconic look.

Honestly, I give zero Berkeleys about off roading and negative one billion of them about solid front axles.  I will say that driving a stick shift Jeep is super fun and it sucks that the Bronco won't have the hardcore off road package on the manual. So yes, if I was going to go off roading, I wouldn't get a Bronco. I'd get a Toyota, because I don't like breaking down in the middle of nowhere!

I like that they've put a granny gear in the transmission.

Off-road use aside, they sure help to get the load moving when towing.

No really, but why?  That seems a really odd decision to offer it across virtually all the trim levels, and go through the trouble of offering a manual, but then NOT allow it to be offered together.  Clutch/Manual too weak to push 35's?

From what I read, the gearing is the problem. I mean, how hard would it be for them to just toss some 4:10's in there instead for the M/T guys? They are Dana 44's under there, right? That axle has been around for about half a century. Even my Power Wagon has one.

Does anybody foresee any issue with flat towing one of these behind an RV? My in-laws saw this and were immediately smitten (as was I) and now want one of these to tow (specifically the 2-dr) instead of a two-dr Wrangler. Haven't been able to find explicit yay/nay statements on flat towing though

Edit: nm I found it on Ford's website

I found this humorous, I'm a little surprised Goodyear was even considered, but I'm not sure of the intricacies of those levels of corporate partnerships and deals.  Does Ford put Firestone on anything anymore, or are they still black balled from the '90s Exploder days? 

Seems like there are enough good tire manufacturers out there these days, that they wouldn't even consider putting Goodyear Wranglers on their Bronco.

Have they said anything about nannies? I would like to like this, I like a lot of what they're doing but I'm not interested in paying for gadgets that I don't want, need, or use. I get that backup cameras are required because people are lazy but I can fix that. The nannies and integrated infotainment crud, though, are probably harder to fix. And that's not even counting that they forgot the keyhole... If I send a really, really polite email do you think they'd sell me a stripped down version with a physical key? Heck I'd supply my own gauges if need be, I've already been on Summit looking for the Mustang.
