Lawn Mowing

I don't dislike mowing, I just want to do it fast. Not fast to get it over with, fast because it's got wheels, an engine, and a loud pedal.

I'm liking what I'm hearing about Silver Eagle.

The guy I'm buying the house from has a John Deere that he's taking with him. He also has one of these:

Not his but same model, anyway, he's promised it to someone else. The someone else is apparently iffy about wanting it. If the someone else doesn't want it, the guy is leaving it to me. Good mower? Sounds like it's about what Jensenman has.

Also, my yard backs up to a farm with goats...

The lawn tractor variety of mower is good if you have to tow stuff but really, really sucks when it comes to actual mowing when compared to a Zero Turn John Deere.

It is unbelievable the difference in speed and quality of cut. Let's not even bring the fun quotient into it. When it comes to fun it's worth twice the price of a lawn tractor in fun alone.

With all due respect to the Dixie Chopper, I'd much rather have a walk behind. And there is none better than the Hustler...

One other thing on the Silver Eagle - when I was researching mowers, I came to these specs:

1.) Nothing built by MTD. I'd had several that were nothing but trouble.

2.) No Briggs & Stratton engines. Same as above.

3.) I wanted a fully welded deck & frame. No stamped steel construction.

4.) I wanted actual grease zerts on wheel bearings, deck bearings, etc.

The Silver Eagle was the lowest-price mower with those features by about $1k.

It's an old wheelhorse, and they are tough as hell.

Here's a cool thread on swapping in a 1 cylinder chinese diesel into these mowers. It's a great swap and for less than $600 or so you could have a diesel mower thats tough as nuts.

Trust no one. No, really any Dixie Chopper is way overkill. Probably any 42" is more than adequate.

Which engines respond best to bolt-ons?
