My wife and I had been noticing a gasoline smell in our garage for the past couple days and I traced it back to our Honda lawnmower. There was no gasoline underneath it and everything looked fine but when I pulled off the air filter cover there was a small puddle of gasoline in it. What would cause gasoline to get in the air filter?
Is this a walk behind mower or a riding mower? I ask because my Honda riding mower leaks gas from the bottom of the sediment bowl on the carb if I do not turn the gas off when not in use. Garage smells like gas afterwards.
Did anyone tip the mower out of the way recently? I did that with mine and gasoline spilled back and was captured in the filter.
fuel tank warming up and pressurizing causing gas to be forced into the carb and overflow into the filter area?
or the float in the carb is leaking and allowing to much fuel in
or you haven't touched the mower since last year and its mad at you......can you lock the door between the house and the garage at night?
It's a push behind mower. It hasn't been started since last year. The wife has been known to hit it with her car when she's forced to park on my side of the garage and she was forced to this past weekend. Coincidence?
Sounds like it's been tipped.
If it got tipped for too long you could have gotten oil into the carburetor.
You might need to clean out the carb but only do it if the mower won't start.

check the oil too, that does go both ways and you may have gas in the oil.
I just fixed up a briggs with a bad float seat that dumped a full gallon into the crankcase before it started running out the breather.
