Yes. If they are out of phase you will get serious, possibly shaft destroying, vibrations. The angles of the joints are as important and must be equal.

That's right. Apparently it will cause terrible vibration otherwise.

The first U-joint makes the rotational speed of the shaft uneven, and having a second one to "reverse" that corrects it and gets the rotational speed to smooth out at the other end.

In other words, the first U-joint berkeleys it- the second one needs to mirror that to unberkeley it.
