I need an appraisal on a couple of massive picture frames from the late 1800's. Anyone have any experience with online appraisers? Renting a truck and hauling these things to Atlanta doesn't sound like much fun.

No exprience, but are there any appraisers in the Blue Ridge/Ellijay area?

It's worth checking to compare the cost of tranporting the frames vs. paying an appraiser to visit the N Ga mountains. Not a bad time of year to get out the city, either.

You might contact your homeowners insurance provider. Often they use expert art appraisers to value objects lost in fires or due to theft, and they may be able to refer you to someone.

If you have a nearby university with an Art History department, sometimes the faculty are themselves or are acquainted with qualified appraisers. It may not be free but they might be able to come to you to see the frames.

The frames themselves will vary quite a bit based on how ornate they are, their size/shape, and condition. Do you have any good pics of them?

On line art appraisal is more squishy than on line car appraisal. At least with a car you have a base line.

I would bring it to or talk to a local antique dealer. You may get a ball park number for starters. Work from there. Some dealers will come to you.

Wait for the Antiques Roadshow to come to Jasper?
