Taking the kids for a weekend trip to Mammoth Cave, staying in BGKY.
How is the factory tour and museum? Worth a half day?

I've done the Plant tour twice. It's cool - you see the final assembly of the car, water spray, and dyno test. I liked it but my wife kids were bored.
Wife will skip the factory. So my dad, my 2 boys and I will look at cars we can't fit inside of.
Because America

They very much are. Look into buying your tickets online. They often sell out on the popular tours before the day of.
The NCM is cool and worth ogling the cars for a couple hours. But honestly the Mamouth cave system is timeless and amazing. I remember going through them in 1985 and 2015.

thanks for the tip regarding online tickets
This thread is relevant to my interests. Wife and I are going to the Charlotte Optima USC event and taking the week off before hand to do a driving road trip. We were planning on Mammoth Cave for at least a couple days, maybe Lane and Maybe Corvette Museum. Would love to hear some cave recommendations when you get back.

If you pass through Chattanooga you can stop at the International Towing Hall of Fame Museum. I've been threatening to drag the wife there one day.
I used to service some equipment at the BG assembly plant every few years, but I haven't been there in a while. Anyway, GM cars get to park closer to the entrance. Any non-GM cars have to park out in BFE.
Elizabethtown KY also has a car museum worth seeing. It's an hour north of Bowling Green. http://www.swopemuseum.com
At Ft Knox (also E-town) there is the George Patton Museum. While there are some interesting bits there it's not as impressive today as it was when it was the Armor Museum. Still worth a visit and has some heavy metal outside.
Also the post currently hast "Camp Arnold" on the front gate in recognition of the 35th anniversary of the movie "Stripes" which was filmed there.
Review:
Corvette museum - enjoyed it.
I wish the new cars up front weren't "hands off" (except for one convertible). The sinkhole exhibit was really good- all eight cars are accounted for. Some fubar, some fixed. The aluminum C7 tunnel and hydroformed frame rail exhibit was cool. Spent about 2.5 hours in there.
Corvette factory - enjoyed it.
Rather short walk with lots of stops talking about option packages, prices, etc. All interesting for a car I will never fit inside. In a couple years they'll add a new half million SF on-site paint building to the tour. Lots to see and no hurry. Seeing the Z06 engine assembly room was cool, but unfortunately it was from across the aisle and through a window. Seeing dyno testing was cool. The assembly line moved slower than I expected.
Mammoth Cave - loved it.
Took the historical tour, approx 2 mile loop down into huge caverns and some very tight spaces. I spent half that time ducking. 55 degrees Fahrenheit and 80% humidity down below. Much more enjoyable than 94/90 topside. One section of the path was called "fat man's misery" and the name was appropriate for some of my tour mates. Over four hundred MILES of caves in this area. Awesome.
Stayed in brand new Hyatt Hotel on campus of Western Kentucky U. Great room, gym and breakfast included for $99/night. Kids loved the pool and the Pokémon were everywhere. Parking was free. Cool college town.
Under 6 hours drive each way. Great weekend trip.

no such rules for guests. Dad's Ford Transit Connect and my Accord managed to get pretty close.
The caves are incredible. anyone should start with the historical tour and see how that tests you before committing to the longer tours. Also don't be that guy who is using your phone when they turn out the lights to show you what pitch ass dark is. Because I'm punching that guy next time.
