This should be in the wheelhouse for GRM. Long and short of it is that I'm in the interview process for a position that I'll 100% accept if offered that's in Daytona. Learn me banking options, neighborhoods without HOAs where 12-1600 a month can cover rent/mortgage, grocery options, farmer's markets, craft beer and dining.
Look to live in ormond beach because daytona is kinda trashy?
In reply to Patrick :
I'm used to a 30-45 minute commute, so anywhere within that radius is in play. Close to the water would be a bonus as having the ability to paddle in the evenings after work would be a huge plus.
I really do like ormond beach and it’s on my radar for future snowbird home. Winter sucks.

Whats your financial situation, or what are you looking for for living situations? Daytona is lots of lower income areas and then really flippin rich folks. Depends on what area of daytona too for commute or work. I live in Deland, maybe 10 minutes from daytona. Much cheaper housing, much more “middle class”. In general i wouldnt think of living in daytona. What i have in Deland, i couldnt afford in daytona. If i could afford it, i dont think id want to live there.

I lived in South Daytona for 5 years off Reed Canal.
There's a sub-development there called Lantern Park which has a lot of pretty nice homes in it and no HOA. It's pretty close to everything, including the river, beach side and Ponce Inlet, while not being absurdly expensive.
My brother actually lives in that house now so I can get you answers with a high degree of certainty.
I'll also add that the Walmart off Dunlawton was a lot nicer than the one of Beville/Nova. Nova was for when you wanted weird at 3 am.
Shopping wise Publix has everything you will ever need.
If you're into pool and beer Uncle Waldos was a great place to hang out.
Mckay's Tavern also has a ton of beer on tap from all over the place. They had a club there at one point which, if you drank all 200 ish beers, they put your name on a plaque.
What now appears to be an LKQ off ISB always had a good selection, and well organized, pick and pull yard.
A bit beyond that there's a shooting range which employed off duty sheriffs. If you're into that, the range was membership free, with a low cost per visit and always very well maintained. - Strickland Shooting Range.
Where is the job located, that would change my answers on where you want to be.
Generally speaking Ormond or Port Orange / New Smyrna Beach is preferable.
PM if thats easier.
I work in Daytona Beach, but like living in DeLand. It still has a bit of old Florida to it. I don't mind being a little further inland during hurricane season, either.

My first and best boss ever lived in Deland and loved it. It did have (or had at that time) an old Florida feel to it. As best as I can tell, he still lives there.
I'd say that all depends on your priorities. If you're looking for a place with a garage/workshop you'll probably be on across the ditch (west side of the intercoastal)...the further from water, the cheaper it gets. If a garage isn't a priority, check out Flagler Beach (just north of Ormand). Some areas are nicer than others. Sometimes cheap neighborhoods = small old houses. Sometime cheap neighborhoods = not a nice/safe place to live. I don't know the specifics of Daytona area...but I know you'll find both.
Craft Brew: There is a massive Total Wine right across from the speedway. It's humongous and amazing.
Port Orange and Ormond are considerably nicer to live in than Daytona proper.
New Smyrna Beach and Flagler Beach are nicer beaches than Daytona.
If you're near a main drag, Bike Week and Biketoberfest are gonna be noisy.
