There is a privacy value.

Your fitness tracker can be evidence against you.

http://www.engadget.com/2015/06/28/fitbit-data-used-by-police/

The sensor data can work out what you're typing.

Many trackers bleed data all over, including their unique MAC. You could, for example, record all of the addresses at a given location, and correlate that information over time to build of a map of people's coming and going. That's an app like this: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.contextis.android.BLEScanner

If it doesn't need to share data the I would suggest trying Pivotal living for $12: Pivotal living tracker My mom and sister have the pivotal living tracker and it seems to work well. My son wants a tracker so I'm going to eventual get him one from pivotal as well.

Looks like this is the winner. I found a list of compatible devices and this one was on there. Ordered one today. Assimilation sometime next week.

Thanks again for all the suggestions everyone.

In reply to patgizz:

I'm hoping for the same bonus steps with a hammer too.

According to my brother, he manual overrides in about 2 miles lol.

My wife got me a pedometer when I started Weight Watchers. It was amazingly inaccurate. Some days it would count hundreds of steps on the train to work and then not a single one when I was actually walking.

I have a fitbit charge my sister has the fitbit Zip. I probably wouldn't have bought it be I received it for Christmas a couple of years ago. The challenges are fun I like beating my competitors, and it is hard to cheat. You can't just put the fitbit on your foot and kick away sitting at your desk you actually have to do the activity. What sucks is that bike riding and Cross Country Skiing do not register that well, but running in place you can really run up the steps. My sister bought her Fitbit Zip for $20, if I bought myself one that is probably the direction I would go. Since I have had my fitbit I have had to return it 4 times, they of course cover shipping and ect., but it is a bit annoying for a watch that costs $125.
