Hey everybody! I just got a pretty good deal on an old Atlas 7B metal shaper, and now I need to get it shipped home.

How do you go about getting a pallet shipped from a freight terminal in 92040 to my work in 98421? The seller is willing to deliver to anywhere I tell him inside of his zipcode, and I plan to have it shipped to my work, where we can unload it with a forklift.

I know someone here knows how to get good rates on this sort of thing. The pallet should weigh about 400lbs.

Just got to pick a shipper. I think last time I used Mercury? Maybe Zipp Express? The engine was 5 hours out, so it was by a smaller truck. They offered to ship it to my house, but it was cheaper to have it sent to a friend's warehouse.
I shipped an engine from Canada once. It was shipped by Yellow (now YRC) at an affordable rate. I picked it up from THEIR warehouse which is reasonably close.

If you have a local Fastnel, that might work, I have also used Uship to ship different items.

I've had great luck with Pilot Air Freight. Excellent prices and decent enough service.

Freightquote.com will handle it but charge a good bit more than Pilot as they have a markup beyond the shipper's prices. They're a bit easier to deal with versus contracting with a freight shipper directly. Freight has not moved as quickly to the consumer age as regular shipping has.

Make sure and estimate your weight carefully. I thought I was "close" and got hit with an overweight charge that almost doubled the shipping cost.

I don't know the scale of that picture but the electric motor on that thing would be near 100 pounds by itself!

Agree! I 've used one of those and would say that double the 400 would be a lot closer to the true weight.

I don't know how big a company you work for or what their policies are, but if it was me, I'd ask the boss about using the company's account and arrange shipping through them. They will be able to get a significant discount from the rate you will pay. Any LTL shipper should be able to carry it, assuming there is a forklift at the origin to load it.

Amtrack ships cheaper than most OTR trucking lines. You need to be able to drop it off at the train station (they have a forklift) and pick it up at the other end.

Yeah, no. That is a 1/2hp motor. The shaper is 18" wide and about 28" tall.

Thanks for the advice guys!
