I liked my various apartments way better than the condo I own and live in now. The condo is basically the same as an apartment, except now I'm partly responsible for anything that breaks. Plus I've got a bunch of bitchy old ladies for neighbors. And I have no garage (and no car now, so that point is moot) and I was not allowed to work on a car in the lot.
Ironically, I sold my car so that I can reduce my debt so that I can buy a small house with a large garage eventually.
For 2-4 years, I think I'd rent, personally.
