So, I think I can do a better job of this: http://hackaday.com/2011/12/05/dash-mounted-nook-color-is-a-perfect-head-unit-replacement/
I'm trying to decide which 7" tablet to go with. I've pretty much ruled out non-android options, like the Blackberry. I also want to avoid complete no-name tablets, having owned and returned an Augen Gentouch about a year ago.
I'm considering the Amazon Kindle Fire, Nook Color, Nook Tablet, Lenovo A1, and Acer A100, though I'd consider another.
I own a fairly significant amount of Amazon content, and I think I trust Amazon to keep me in firmware, even if that never means leaving Gingerbread. There is also no camera or bluetooth.
Nook Color and Nook Tablet lack camera and bluetooth, and are locked down tablets in an ecosystem incompatible with my content. They look like nice hardware, but I already have Kindle books and VOD movies.
The Lenovo A1 has a great price, bluetooth, GPS, and dual cameras, but Lenovo is probably never going to release a firmware update, and isn't really interested in my post-purchase experience, since they don't make money on the back end. It's on Gingerbread forever.
The Acer A100 is about more expensive, but has bluetooth, GPS, dual camera, and a commitment from Acer to ship ICS in mid-April. There is Market access. It seems to have ten-finger tracking. It's an honest-to-goodness midrange tablet, but the battery life is execrable, at about half the life of anything else I'm considering.
Is there anything else I should consider? I'm not seeing an all around winner.
