good, bad or indifferent.. its toss up time between that and a 10/22..
Pick the one you like, you'll most likely be happy with it and the next time someone asks about .22 plinking guns you'll say I did xxxx and no same person would do otherwise. The 10/22 has a ton of aftermarket to change and improve it, but the marlins seem to be a bit better shooters out of the box.

I always research aftermarket parts before buying any firearm and there are plenty for the Ruger. I've been satisfied w/ the 10/22. YMMV
the only add on i am going to put on it is optics,, it is for my 9yr old. he shot the 1022 today and liked it but i want to have him hold the 795 and see which he likes
I've never liked the 10/22 out of the box, with a trigger kit and a not steel bolt buffer they're a lot better, but I've always viewed it as a start to a project more than a ready to fire rifle. I have no experience with the Marlin 795, but hear great things about the 60.
