There is (was?) a crappy water park there that my summer camps would take us to.

That's all I got.

I have visited there a few times and thought it was really nice.  We toured the USS Alabama once and I would like to do it again.  We also went to Fort Morgan.  My son's family goes to Dauphin Island a couple times a year.  That is the next place we plan to visit in the area on the next trip there.  There was also a real outta the way seafood restaurant in the Bayou that I have no idea what the name of it is but it was really good.

From the crying face, do I assume this is ILO the transfer to DC area?

The only thing I know about Mobile, is they actually started maradi gras, and it's not far from a great Naval Air Museum, in Pensacola.

Grew up in Mobile, but moved away after high school. Not sure how it is now, but it wasn't too bad then.

In reply to yupididit :

I've not spent a lot of time in Mobile, but what I've seen is honestly better than I expected. There seem to be a lot of nicer neighborhoods on the west side of town. There's plenty of shopping & dining options off I-65 & the mall was decent(though that was pre-Covid). I've not been downtown, but it's apparently similar to the French Quarter in Nola.

Even better though - you'll be close enough to be my Challenge partner!!! :-)

Yup! They want me there before 1 October. Highly inconvenient because there's no positions for my lady there and the next closest AFB is in Biloxi MS.

In reply to yupididit :

It's ~50 miles between Keesler & Mobile. So splitting th difference, while still sucky(especially in heavy rain) is doable. Pascagoula sucks though, so just skip right over it. Gautier is a little closer to Biloxi, but is a bit nicer. Email me if you want to talk offline about it, or if you want an USAF-specific info my wife will talk your ears off & probably knows the answer to any questions you or your lady may have. It's my username(no spaces) at the ya who place.

70 miles between University of South Alabama and Keesler. Which would be our respective work places, if she was to find a position at Keesler. Would probably live closer to her job if that were to happen. But, right now it looks like she'll be here in San Antonio until that gets figured out.

In reply to yupididit :

Oh damn. Yeah that adds a bit of distance.
