So this really hot chick moved in next door.... no... just kidding..
I have seen enough really cool footage taken from relatively cheap Quadcopters I am in the market for one. The trouble is one of my primary uses is going to be over the water in 20mph+ winds..
The DJI Phantom seem like the best choice until water is thrown in the mix.. Then crashes become an expensive problem.
So I am looking for a more waterproof/resistant solution. Without spending a small fortune, but still get professionally amateur type results.. Maybe try waterproofing the Phantom? Any suggestions?

I've got a Phantom.
Water + 20 mph winds is a definite no-no.
There are various ways to save a quad over water (pontoons, flotation, etc), but I don't think there is an entry level unit that can take good footage in 20 mph winds. They are REALLY light.
20mph winds are going to be a huge problem for any flying thing that can be easily carried by 1 person.

Yeah, I used to fly a lot of R/C planes and in 20 mph winds, we just stayed home unless it was a meet.

He just needs the streamlined appearance and fur for wind dampening that the OrvilleCopter can offer.....

Oh, I hear it will also avoid water at all costs and never land upside down......

A guy I know in Ottawa uses a DJI Phantom to record rally stuff and he loves it. It gets great shots.

Umm... It just flys. No camera, so I don't think a DJI Phantom actually gets any shots at all.
The GoPro (or other camera) attached to it may get great shots, but not the Phantom.
Found a Phantom V2 locally... Good fun. Tough enough to handle a soft maple tree or two.
Mind was blown when I saw this..

But I guess I am going to be looking for some kind of waterproof frame, or at least get comfortable enough to fly before trying the sailing shots. This is the goal.

Check out http://www.flitetest.com or go on youtube and search for flite test. There is a lot of good info there. One of these days I am going to build a v-tailed quad copter.
