I use my eyes.
never used one.. and honestly, the cops come down harder on you if they catch you using one.
Most of the pull overs I have gotten over the years, I received a verbal warning. I don;t speed much, I am polite and honest, and I do my best to make the cop feel comfortible about pulling me over.. this once included driving half a mile with the 4-ways on to a parking lot instead of parking on the side of a very busy road
I disagree. The Valentine is an awesome tool to add to common sense, being alert, being on the lookout, and not being an asshat.
Never used one either. I keep most of my speeding to accelerating briskly up on-ramps, then settling back down to 5-8 over.
You have to speed over really long distances to make any kind of real time difference. Not worth it around town.
exactly... I generally stick to that same thing.. 5 to 8 over. Now they are using instant on radar and laser.. detectors are getting more and more useless by the day,
I know this is not what you want to hear... but generally you will find most of us keep our "brisk" driving safely on the track. too many uncontrolled variables to driving even 7/10s on the street
Valentine One is the best. I don't use them just because the cops are sparse and pretty un-creative about choosing trap points around here.
If you get one, keep in mind that many can detect emergency vehicles and DOT vehicles as well. A good safety feature especially when towing.
Trapster is a good android app that my friend moderates. They are more useful in high traffic areas. May be worth checking out.
I have a Valentine 1. I love it, and it's saved me a few times. I typically only ever go 5 to 8 over too, but it sure is nice to know when Johnny Law is watching you. The one down side is every large store seems to use k band motion activated doors.
I previously had an Escort 8500x50 but it popped up a "send to factory for recalibration" message after having it only 25 days. It wasn't that much more to step up to the Valentine so I returned it. The arrows on the Valentine are very helpful.
I used one when I was younger, but now I just drive a reasonable speed. Maybe it's a maturity thing, idunno.
I love my Valentine 1. Hate driving without it.
Has paid for itself over and over again. Though I usually only go 5-10 over on big main roads and interstates.
We live on a busy residential street. 25mph limit. At least once a week there is a motorcycle cop parked directly across the street. I talk to him regularly. He keeps quite busy. I asked him what the worst excuse he ever got. Said the driver didn't pull over because his wife had run off with a cop and he was afraid the cop was bringing her back.

Good point.
Just cruise in packs with traffic down interstates......detectors(when they actually detect), are useful reminders to check speed.....just remember, with laser, if it goes off, chances are you're hit.
All I ask is please don't be like every other douchebag with them......the whole drive 20-30 over the limit, then slam on the brakes hard when it goes off is quite annoying/pointlessly stupid. Usually they'll go 5 under the limit at that point obstructing the left lane......and get mad when I highbeam their asses to MOVE.

This is PURE GOLD!!!!!!!!!! +1 there
I almost never get hit with laser. And when I do it's in places that you really shouldn't be speeding anyways. Like passing through small towns while traveling down US Routes. Small town cops + drastically lowered speed limits = speed trap hell.
Other than that, in 10+ years of driving I could count on one hand the amount of times I've been hit with laser on the Interstate. And when there is traffic I'll usually pick it up when they are lasering other cars ahead of me.
What I've come to assume is that most cops don't use laser as they have to actively aim and use it versus just spray and pray while relaxing in their car with normal radar.
I usually get a cheap Beltronics or whatever. If I was going to splurge on a "good" one, I'd probably get an Escort. I've heard too many stories of V1s having way too many false alarms. But in any case, I've always felt I get 80% of the protection for 25% of the price with the cheapys, and I don't speed much anymore, either. I just like to know they are out there.
One other thing I've noticed is that V1 fanatics have an almost religious fervor about the things.
Don't speed around 465 in Indy then.......all three times by laser.....thankfully its a $100 diversion with no restrictions(basically a bribe)
The best one was for 75 in a 55......while tailgating a semi in the fast lane.

Oh god 465 is awful. Speed limit 55, flow of traffic 75+.
Radar detectors won't stop you from getting tickets, they are just tools, and like any tool it's only as good as the person using it.

There police will appreciate that.
my V 1 was going off the other day ... just a couple of dots but it had the VREY SERIOUS sound of instant on .... as I topped a hill it went solid red ( 10 dots ) and there he was on the side of the road ( I was in the right lane running 5 over ) had already slowed to the limit ... as I approached the car the V 1 suddenly switched to laser .. I thought "wow" how 'bout that ... cars were passing me at least 10 - 15 faster ... never saw him pull out
I use a cheapie Beltronics mostly because it reminds me to think about what I am doing. If you use your head, even the cheapies can save your ass, er, wallet. The single 'blip' in the middle of nowhere is my cue to watch carefully. I will generally only do 5-8 over but if the cop is low on his numbers for the month... speaking of surface streets, there is some smartass kid in a white Nissan pickup who has gone down my street at, no kidding, at least 70 more than once. There are two kids ~5-6 years old living in the house catty-cornered from me, so when I get his tag number he is dead meat.
