I presume since you are on this board, you are a road racing fan. Lots of that around there, and if you learn to love short track late model racing, you will be in in heaven.

I vacationed in Madison, and it was a really great time. Madison on a bicycle in the summer is hard to beat. We also drove down to family events in Rockford and east of Janesville. Everyone was nice, and the climate in the summer is refreshingly cool, at least compared to Louisiana. I keep talking about going back in February just to see the other side of the place.
The nicest / most honest people in the United States live in rural Wisconsin and Minnesota. Outside of the big cities crime is nearly non-existant and folks rarely lock their doors. A local resident summed it up by saying " Up here, you never have to worry about being stabbed in the back" People also look out for one another, and are willing to help just because it's the right thing to do.
It's a wonderful place to live--- as long as you can take the Winters. The horribleness of the Winters cannot be exaggerated.
I like it so much up there that I plan on retiring near Elkhart Lake some day. In the Spring, Summer, and Fall. If I can help it, I'll never go through another Midwestern Winter.
A Green Bay weather person stated the last 70°F day in 2013 and the first 70°F day in 2014 were seven months a part.

I feel I can leave the Chicago 'burbs someday and retire in central/southern Wisconsin with a 5 acre lot and big garage.I live in the Chicago area and I am shopping for just such a place.
My first question will be "how far from Elkhart Lake are we"?
Love Elkhart lake. Nice info on Black hawk. I'm a rally guy at heart but I think road racing/ sportscars are in my future. I'm in NW MT now so the weather isn't an issue. Not very excited about the rust as I turn wrenches for a living but I'll learn the tricks soon enough.

Ever heard of loctite? Everything you used to use loctite on, now use anti-sieze.
Kenosha county on the border is pretty nice, school wise grade s hool twins laks is a good school followed by wilmount high school. We also have the wilmount speedway dirt track, mid county. Just north on the border with racine county is great lakes dray way. Its 20 mits to kenosha, 30 mits tolake gevena. Not sure what tax rate is but its less then $200 to get plates and tital for a car. Insirene is hight then ill you would need 25/50 for liber for a car. Not far from ill and just over to chi town, an hour to milwakee fromthe middle of the county. I live in trever just over the ill border in wis. Nice area and still got some places for autocross also. Running in the chitown burbers with many groups or running at miller park with a few groups for auto cross.
