I am planning to go to the 24 hr at Nelson Ledges at the end of June. First time there and wondered where I can camp, where to spectate or is there a place where I can do both. I hear the facilities are rustic but I was wondering how rustic?

Best spectating IMO is from outside of the track by the bridge. You can see from the Kink, T12, T13, front straight, start/ finish. Grid also. Outside alternative, overlookin' front straight, T1, T2.

From inside the track I'd still watch T12, T13.

Dunno about camping anymore, it's been years.

I camped around the inside of T3 or T4, I think, years ago at a Lemons race there.  Decent enough view.

I am hopeful that some upgrades went in since then.  I think when I was there, only a small cluster of buildings in the infield had power and water, along with some overhead lights.  Corner stations were run off battery power.

Nelson is definitely rustic camping. No water, electric hookups. Water is available at the restroom at the infield. I use the word “restroom” loosely since it is rustic as well. I stayed overnight and build a campfire between 3 and  4 infield several years ago. At that time you were required to have a boarder around the fire (rocks or whatever) but no one checks up on you.

I like to spectate on the outside of the track between the bridge and 13. Closer to 13. Interesting to note: the bridge used to have walls to prevent anyone from spectating but the new owner removed them the last time I was there. Most of the action/trouble occurs in the  carousel but spectating was only available before or after that spot.

The new owner has been upgrading the track. It now has curbing as well as being paved. I hear there is more to come and I haven’t been there since June last year so some rules / issues may have changed.

Edit: if your like me the best spectating is watching repairs in the “garage” during the early part of a 24 hour race

That will be a big part of my time there this is the first 24 I have been at since Mosport in 95. I always loved wandering the paddock in the wee hours.  That is one of the things I love about endurance racing.

Any Idea if they allow camping outside of 13?

Yes you can camp on the outside of 13.

Of course, with new owners this could have changed (doubt it). Nelson phone: 330-977-0111
