rust....more rust, rust under, over, in vehicle..Here in the Northeast, anyway. The biodegraded quite quickly.
Rust seems to have killed most of them, but you probably know that already.
They make excellent birthday presents.
There are exactly 12 days left in the Tom's Birthday season.
Seriously, good luck. I love the Brat, and can't wait to find one of my own someday.
Well, around here '86 is very recent . It's this one, actually: http://reno.craigslist.org/cto/1937797783.html
I'm not sure I want one, but the only way to find out is by checking it out.
Tom, if it's any good and I am not interested, do you want me to PM you?
No visible rust! Only one pic, but encouraging. Sounds good, and looks like a factory camper shell/top. At that price, very well worth making the stop. If it's half as good as it looks, buy it..
Unfortunately it turned out to be mostly a restoration project rather than something usable as a daily winter driver...
Boxyhead, don't be afraid of looking into california. My mom lives near Grass Valley/Nevada City and I've seen a couple of brats, they are cool. I don't know if any are for sale but they are around, but look in the mountains where AWD is necessary.

I've been keeping an eye on the Sacramento CL as well, the choice of vehicles in CA is better than what we tend to get up here. Plus getting a CA vehicle home is a lot easier than an NV vehicle as you don't have to make a flying visit to the DMV to get a movement permit.
Brats very rarely come up for sale around here anyway and tend to get snapped up quickly. The fact that this one made it over the long weekend without being sold was a bit of a sign...

Well I saw one of what I was thinking of and it was the Subaru Baja, not a Brat.

The color and shape makes me think aussie ute, but I'd still rock a subaru that looks like that.
I haven't seen an 80s brat for years here in pennsylvania.
