I am looking at a new job opportunity that would relocate the family there. What is the good, bad and the ugly?

The Hampton Roads area has a lot of history. It is also a large spread out metro area with bad traffic, so I would try to live close to work if possible. I had a 17 mile commute that involved only 1 tunnel, and that would sometimes take me over an hour to get home because I did not live close to work.

I was not a fan of Va Beach itself and tried to avoid the beach area in the summer time, but Sandbridge was nice.

I think there was a thread about Hampton Roads in the past year or two that should have a lot of information.

Here are some threads about the area, although two of them are based on visiting and not living in the area, but they may help you get a feel for what folks think (or thought, depending on the age of these threads) of the area.

I lived in Suffolk, VA for 7 years, but moved away from the area in 2009, so anything I say is a bit dated at this point.
