OK, my current softener has been sitting dormant for at least 18 months and is currently bypassed. Just replumbed the house and don't want to spoil my new water heater etc. with whatever may be lurking in this thing. Its over 15 years old and Kenmore doesn't strike me as a "top level" unit. The display lights up if plugged in. Local softener place said to toss it (of course) and buy a new one($750). Cost of new seal kit, flushing and new resin $400. New on-demand unit from Fleck $500. That's an internet price with shipping. (24k grain) My water (well) definitly has rust/iron. Sediment filter turned orange in 10 days. Thoughts from the greatness that is GRM?

When my water is hard I usually just remove it from the freezer and let it sit on the counter.

Stupid I know, but I just couldn't resist.

I'm actually glad you posted it. I have a water softener that's been sitting dormant for a few years and would like to know what it takes to bring it back online.

I like putting lots of spaces between thoughts.

It makes people scroll farther down to get to the good information.

That way you know the posters after me actually have something good to add since it takes more effort.
