i used to work with a guy that drove a leaf ~50-60 miles per day.  he said that sometimes if he had to run an errand or went to lunch he would have to find a place to top off on the way home, or eat lunch at a place with charging stations.  one time, not too long after he got it, it tripped the breaker in the garage overnight, so he only had enough juice to get to work, but not home.  he had to go to a mall nearby for lunch and plug in for 30-45 minutes so he'd have enough power to get home.  i believe i recall him saying that the a/c and heat significantly impacted his range, and that some winter days he'd do without the heat to make sure he had enough to get home.

Having been barraged lately by the news coming out about the 2018 Nissan Leafs (Leaves?) I happened to notice that my local electric company (BGE) is offering $10,000 off MSRP on the 2017 Leaf (and, oddly, only on the Leaf- no other electric car) until the end of September.  This is in addition to the $7500 federal tax incentive.  Which brings a 2017 Leaf down to around $13,000 out of pocket.  I.E. really, really cheap.

When this was in the Frederick paper a week or so ago, I think there was another ~$3k credit mentioned also.  Maybe from MD?

This proposition only works one way, either find a way to charge at work or don't buy the car. With your commute, there are way too many ways for you to end up stranded on the side of the road in an EV of that range.
