Lenny was also the name of his wife.
I was given tickets to his last show. ( Alpine Valley WI) I didn't go because I thought I had already missed too many classes. (I was in college at the time) That was a bad choice-- I could have made up the classes.
It was a triple bill--- Clapton, SRV and Robert Cray. Stevie wanted to head to Chicago to jam at Buddy Guy's before they closed, so he convinced Clapton to give up his ride in the helicopter. As it turns out, Stevie and Clapton's manager died. (as did the pilots I believe)
Just when he was back from the brink (of addiction) and at the top of his game......RIP SRV.
It has been that long? I guess this is another feel old moment of the week.
I heard about it the day after it happend when I walked in the music instrument section of local pawn shop. I asked the guy behind the counter behind the counter how his day was going. He said, "Terrible. Stevie Ray Vaughn died last night." The rest of the day is blur in my memory.
This was one of those moments I remembered exactly were I was when I heard the news. It was not a good day in so many ways.

Yep, I remember exactly what I was doing and where I was when I heard the news, pretty shortly after it happened.

+2, so do I. US-23 northbound on my way home from classes at EMU, right before the M-14 interchange. They announced it on WRIF.
SRV was the first concert I ever attended, at the Royal Oak Music Theater in 1985.
And we can't get John Bon Jovi into a helicopter..
Here's a can of Aqua-Net. GET in the helicopter, John!
. I feel old. I often wonder what his next album would have been.

I was driving with my girlfriend and I heard the news on the radio. Hit me like a ton of bricks. I remember her asking me if I was OK.
Yeah, that sucked.

I was at work listening to the radio. My friend/coworker and I were both guitar players (him MUCH better than I). We both literally dropped our tools and sat there on either side of the bench staring at the radio and each other as the reports came in.

I, too, remember when I first heard about it. SRV is still my favorite guitarist. And whenever Annie's not within earshot, I turn up the volume on Texas Flood, the El Mocambo live version from '83. (Annie doesn't like a whining guitar. I do).

This is a post-post at 4:30, a few hours after my original post. It would've been great to be there at that concert in Toronto in '83. One of my regrets in life is that I never saw him perform live. (Among my other regrets is that I never saw races at Riverside or Bridgehampton).
I'm currently having a couple beers in SRV's honor and to his immense talent and showmanship.
25 years ago, I didn't particularly care for his music. That has changed in the past couple years, though. Now, I'm growing to like it. Sad that he's gone.
My dad died the next day. That was a sucky couple of days right there.

Me too. Was going through processing for deployment to Saudi Arabia for Desert Storm/Shield when we heard it on the radio. Naturally considering that we were army helicopter crewmembers we were speculating on how the crash happened.
