True American Legend.
RIP. When I get home tonight, I'm definitely strapping on one my Les Pauls and making some noise in his honor.
As some of you may recall, I have a guitar given to my grandfather by the builder, Clyde Stanley, who made it in prison. I recently spoke to his daughter, who's in her 70s, and she told me that when she was a kid, she remembers Les Paul coming over to their house to play with Clyde (before he was a kidnapper and murderer) from time to time. Mary Ford stopped by once or twice, too.
Having just found this out a couple weeks ago, I was in the process of contacting his 'people' to arrange a meeting at the Iridium in NYC to see if he remembered anything about Clyde or the guitar. Looks like it will remain a legend.
I've wanted a Les Paul since I saw Jimmy Page with one when I was young teenager (it was in a picture, not a concert). I've since tried to sit with them resting on my leg/knee and it was kinda uncomfortable. More of a stand and play guitar.
