Walking down the street in DC with my girlfriend after leaving the Air and Space museum, we made a random wrong turn on the way back to the metro. As we're waiting at a crosswalk, I hear someone calling my name. Turn and see one of my best friend's and his gf stopped at the light. Neither of us knew the other was gonna be in DC that weekend!

I did Model UN in high school and every year we went to this big conference in NYC. My senior year I was in a really small committee, maybe 20-25 people, that I spent the majority of 3 days stuck in a a room with. Fast forward maybe 6 months to the first week of my freshman year at college (relatively small, engineering focused school). Walking back to my dorm one day, I see one of the guys from that committee approaching from the opposite direction and we both stopped dead in our tracks. Too weird!

Now out of all of the unfinished books on my shelves I'm gonna have to pick up Fr. George Rutlers 'Coincidentally'. My coincidence was chatting with a Palestinian Arab in D.C. with an Irish girlfriend 10 years after I had a 20 minute airport conversation with two of his friends arriving in Baton Rouge to go to LSU. I was as much shocked that I could remember their names. Alas there was no connection between me and my fellow countryman.

Another Louisiana one was an Irish-American NOLA judge I'd been introduced to through another judge (family friends!) and then befriending some Irish-Americans a few years later in D.C. who were kind of at logger heads with the judge in the Ancient Order of Hibernians.

When my wife was admitted to the hospital with her stroke I was off from work. I spent all day with her Friday and Saturday. Both mornings she had a very nice older Jamaican woman as a nurse that kept looking at me funny. Sunday I had to go back to work but stopped at the hospital first in my uniform. The nurse starts laughing that she knew me from somewhere, that I used to be the dispatcher she'd see when she went to visit her daughter who lived on 117st in Manhattan a block away from my old post.

Years ago I was working on a car in the BGN race at Daytona. The car owner rented a house on the beach in New Smyrna for us to stay in. The first day we had the truck and trailer parked out front and some kids started talking to us. It turns out I went to school with one of their older brothers. They were in cooking school and had no room yet for Speedweek so we invited them to stay. It worked great because they repayed us by cooking every night. They definitely good the wrong end of that deal as we kept inviting more people back to crash at the house. By the end of the week it had gotten crowded enough that I was sleeping on the deck next to the hot tub.

Ended up on the same flight from Dallas to DC with my cousin. I had been in New Orleans with friends and he had been in San Diego with his wife. We were getting lined up for the gate after both having a lay over and spotted each other. Ran into a guy from high school in an airport in Germany once also.

I do like to wear a hat/shirt/something from hometown/college/etc when traveling that is recognizable. I've run into tons of folks that'll see like my college hat or something and strike up a conversation.

In my 20s, I bought an RD 400. I was the third owner. The guy I bought it from had been racing it, and never registered it. So, I was the second titled owner. Turns out it was purchased new on my 6th birthday.

When my parents split up while I was in high school, my mother and I moved into a new apartment complex in the same town - Bensalem. Bensalem is a densely populated township with a lot of apartment complexes. If I were to guess, I'd say there are close to 100 different complexes of varying sizes. After I moved out, my band got a new member. We were talking one day and he mentioned he once lived in the same complex. Turned out he also lived in the same building (one of 4) and actually in the same apartment as I did.

In reply to Dusterbd13: It was fleetwood Pa. One time I was walking thru the airport in LA and I hear someone yelling out my name. Turns out it was a kid I coached several years before here in Massachusetts. He was living in LA pursuing an acting career. At the time I had no idea who he was or what his name was, but he recognized me. Makes you wonder how many people you pass every day that you had some sort of connection to in past years.

I ran into my sister in a cafe the other day.

We live in the same town. And both frequent the place.

Actually it's almost exactly between her house & my apartment.

I got nothing.

Actually I do have a better one, but it was more a coincidence for the other guy than me. I picked up an old spectrum analyzer & logic pattern generator from a workshop at the university that was decommissioning them, thinking they'd be useful for some of my projects. They seemed to have had a few previous owners before the uni, apparently originating in a research lab somehow associated with the local navy detachment, so they had asset tags on them.

After utterly failing to use the things for two years, I stuck them on the local buy & sell site. I immediately got a response from a guy who had the same model of spec analyzer & was looking for a parts machine to fix his up. In briefly chatting with him I learned he used to use one when he worked as a contractor on navy projects. Umm...

When he showed up to collect the gear I showed him the asset tags. Yep, they were his old machines from his old lab. Well, I'm glad they went to a suitable home then.

My daughter just went home to IL yesterday after spending spring break here in Biloxi. She just texted me that she saw a guy in the store wearing a Biloxi shirt, so she said hi & told him I live down here. Turns out his brother lives here & is involved in the big annual Crusin' the Coast 10-day long car show.

Beer sampling at a close friend's house. Guy who's been the host's best friend since like junior high is in the same F-18 squadron as my little brother.

I filled him in on details he could use to give my brother E36 M3 next time he saw him.

Back in 2011, I started a new job, my last gig at my old company. When I was interviewing for it, my old boss said that I would get along great with another guy in the group. His name was Anthony. My full name is Antonio. Weird.

It got a lot weirder.

-He went to and graduated from the same college, and majored in the same subject

-He grew up a few towns away from me, and I almost moved to that town when I was a kid

-He's into the same music I am, and has been to many of the same concerts I went to

-He briefly dated a girl I briefly dated, and around the same time, and had the same conclusions about her (she was CRAZY)

-He's very Italian, and so am I

-He moved to the same town I currently live in, but moved away right when I moved in

We became fast friends. I'm still good friends with him now. Here's a pic of us after we downed a couple beers using each other's ID's to purchase them at an Iron Maiden show a few years ago:

I'm on the left. I bought similar glasses just to mess with him after this too.

I had been saying that my company car would be great if it was one or two trim levels higher. Got my permanent car today. Exact same, same mileage, etc. Except that its the next trim level with the armrest and cruise. Even the same color and hubcaps. Parked side by side, you can't tell the difference.

While in Penang Malaysia on business, I jumped into a hotel shuttle bus and sat directly next to a guy I had studied for my CPIM certification with 20 years earlier.

The only thing that makes this less than wildly remarkable is that we’re both in high-tech manufacturing and Malaysia is a popular place for U.S. companies to offshore this kind of work to but still.

Two students in an engineering statistics class I once taught were named Brian Law & Brain Outlaw. They both liked to play basketball and during one lunch break, they played a game of one on one against each other. Outlaw tripped and injured his leg so badly that he was out of work for several weeks.

All together everybody on one…two…three…”I fought the law and the law won”

I wonder how long it took to explain to/convince the DMV what he was trying to accomplish?
