I'm not sure I've ever read/heard about the Soviet's WW2 disposition, especially on the Pacific.

Avoiding an unchallenged US position in Japan post-war was a major Soviet objective. Unfortunately for the Soviets, the A-bomb hastened the Japanese surrender to the point that it could do little but accept the American position. See this document for a good sense of the tensions between the two.

The Soviet position in China was very complex. If you really want to go down the rabbit hole, here's a trove of documents on just one aspect of this. It really helps to contextualize some Soviet decisions in a way that the usual Eurocentric discussion of the early Cold War tends to overlook.

I'm told it has do do with the sterilization that occurs.  This is the reason store bought eggs need to be refrigerated where farm fresh do not

Exactly.  $20 at harbor freight and I would have just shook my head; nearly $300 from a real tool company and I don't know what to think.

The reason store bought eggs have to be refrigerated is that a coating (the cuticle) is removed when they're processed.

Edit:  So, that begs the question, who uses that, and for what?  It's obviously a real thing, and at that price, its obviously a serious thing.  There was a picture of it on a turnbuckle, so...  The crescent wrench head is the part that bothers me.  A set of plug in open end wrenches, ok.  Crescent wrench...

Which just inspired another question.  Is Crescent Wrench a common term, or a local one to me?
