> Have you looked into Eastwood guitars

Am I supposed to coat them in rubber?

So much awesome. They do lots of limited runs and blow them out cheap. Wacky vintage repops, strange amalgams of other vintage stuff, accurate reissues of old Airlines, electric Tenors, short scale 12 strings.

yeah, I'm familiar. Just trying to make a joke based on the nearby Eastwood thread.

As for the eastwood guitars, they're cheap and cool, but playability is hit and miss. Best to try one first, if you can. Of course, that's true with most of the old ones too. Also, don't look to Eastwood for repros that are actually like vintage guitars. They're good at making guitars that look like cool old stuff, not making guitars that actually sound or work like cool old stuff.

Just using the examples posted above, if you actually dig old Kay or Mosrite stuff, the Eastwood isn't going to be anything whatsoever like and original. But if you just like the looks, that may not be a bad thing at all.

I just wanted to post some pretty pictures

I have had a few in my hands and haven't felt one I didn't like. I wish I had picked up an Eastwood instead of the Harmony H62 Reissue. It seems like I have to adjust the truss rod and bridge height every month with that thing.

Well if it's pretty pictures you want, I can do that, too.

How are the Corvette reissues? I briefly had an original back in the late 80's when they were pretty much worthless (200-300 for a decent player) and kind of want one again. I traded it in on a batwing headstock Epi Coronet (again worthless at the time)which I also traded off.

At the time I wanted that period "dischord records" sound and couldn't afford an SG so I kept going through what I could afford and never wound up happy. Now I want those P-90 and filtertron type sounds and kick myself for getting rid of all that great gear.

When I was picking up my Les Paul yesterday, I met a guy in the shop also picking up some Gretsch's he had customized. Apparently he owns something like 300 guitars and owns a butt-load of custom-shop Gretsch models.

With a lifetime total of about 30 guitars, my GAS (Gear Aquisition Syndrome) pales in comparison... His music room must look like a guitar store...

The vette reissues are way better than the originals ever were. That's much more consistent quality control these days, the Megatron pickups are a much better match for the mahogany body than the HiLos were, and the B5 Bigsby is far superior to the old Burns unit. My only gripe is they lost the 4+2 headstock. But that's just aesthetics. On mine, I swapped out the craptastic tunamatic bridge for a nice Tru-Arc bar bridge and swapped over to a cast aluminum Bigsby handle just because I like the feel better, and it's just an awesome guitar.

Street price is great on them, too. If you hunt, you can find them for $450-500 without much trouble. Helluva fine guitar for that money.

It is funny that a guitar that was nearly forgotten not that long ago now is now being copied by PRS and others.

So here's the wild, small-world moment.. the guy Ian went to is the same guy -- a friend of mine -- who repaired and painted the guitar I posted back on page 11 and 12 of this thread. The other guy he's talking about is a friend, too.

Crazy.

Finally got my new girls! Custom-built by Allen Colby in Ft. Pierce FL (my best friend's dad.) The tele is basswood with a charvel fusion neck.

The offset is pine that came from an old house here in Downtown Blue Ridge. Warmoth Pro neck.

Both have OFR's, Duncans, and I had the controls moved way down & out of the way, as I do the whole "George Lynch" thing with my right hand and have a habit of occasionally turning myself down by accident.

Edited the orientation on Photobucket like 10 times, but it's not "taking" for some reason.

I like that offset a lot, 'cept for the Duncan 'buckers. He makes some nice pickups, I just have a thing against Gibson-style hum buckers. Put some P-90s in that thing and it'd be awful sweet, though.

I could see your point if I wasn't playing in a full-on metal band lol

Amusing that he threw in the riff from that cheeseball song that was their only hit. Always thought that it was an indictment of the listening public that a band made up of such musical badasses only got radioplay when they hung all their talent in the closet and played a formula derived rock ballad.

To make up for it:

Woulda been better with soapbars though. Lol.

Sweet customs. Amused at the idea of a Tele in a metal band. Glad to see you're still alive.

Thanks dude! We kind of try to maintain that "silly" vibe. Mike plays a hot pink dean with a pink fretboard lol

I've been referring to them as the "Blasphemaster" and the "telebastard."

There have a been a few. Mick Mars played a custom Kramer Tele for awhile. One of the guys in Tesla played an ESP Tele (as did Izzy in GnR once in awhile - 20-odd years ago, I almost bought an almost identical ESP Horizon Tele, but the store owner was a dick). The most notable recent metal player is John 5.

Cool collection poop.

Okay... how come I can copy the location of this photo and it shows up, but when I copy the links to other photos, they show up in the preview pane, but then not in the post??

I have owned my Jackson Performer PS4 since 1998, and the whole time it was missing its tremolo bar. That was, until yesterday!

I took a ride to Guitar Center and they didn't have any for sale, however, they had a chrome one kicking around in a drawer that they just gave me. Free is cool.

My hardware is all black, so I will most likely plasti-dip it or something. Also, I was told that my bar would not be a Strat-style threaded one. That is incorrect, as this one IS threaded. There is a fitting that threads into the bridge, and the inside is also threaded to accept the bar. I had fun last night messing around with it.

Also, an unfortunate incident occurred with my Ovation acoustic last night. I put it down too quickly and it fell, taking a good chunk out of the headstock.

So, today's my other nephew's birthday (turning 12). As you may recall, I did a "Build Thread" on a quick rehab of a Squier HSS Strat for his older brother a couple years ago. Well, the younger one has been playing Cello in school and has taken an interest in playing the bass guitar. My sister thought that it was time to get him a bass, so last night, she bought this:

http://www.guitarcenter.com/Yamaha-RBX170-Bass-101834760-i1146650.gc

And my parents and I combined forces to get him this:

http://www.guitarcenter.com/Fender-Rumble-V3-25w-1x8-Bass-Combo-Amp-110174018-i3616618.gc

I really wanted to get him a used bass that I could fix up like I did with my other nephew's guitar, but I wasn't buying this time. They had one of these Washburn basses there for only $149, but my sister wanted to go new:

http://www.musiciansfriend.com/bass/washburn-taurus-t24-neck-thru-electric-bass-guitar

I thought the Washburn was a better deal and it played and sounded awesome, but she didn't like it. I may have to go back and get it myself.

The Yamaha is VERY light, easy to play, and looks and sounds pretty good. I played a Squier P-Bass with a P/J setup, and it must have been about 10 pounds heavier than the Yamaha. The little Fender amp was a steal. It's extremely basic (3-band EQ) but it makes a lot of noise for its size. It only has an 8" speaker, but the cab is ported so it has a nice, boomy sound for such a little amp. It even has an overdrive channel, and sounded cool playing Stoner-type bass lines.

I'm hoping he sticks with it like his older brother did so we can have some family Metal jams.
