Here's my '74 SG in action adding some guitar to an indie electro-pop tune:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QyOnqh7SnR4
The bridge part is a little pitchy for some reason.
Granted, very little effort went into this. Figuring out the levels was more effort than playing it.
Many of you may recall the guitar rehab builds I did around the holidays for my nephew. Well, my younger 13 year old nephew has been playing bass guitar for a little over a year now, and he he wanted a project of his own. He called me over the weekend all excited because my dad who volunteers at the town dump/transfer station "swap shop" was given one of these:
http://www.washburn.com/products/bass/T12B.html

It's an entry level Washburn T12 Taurus bass, and someone was going to toss it. He snagged it for my nephew, so I went to take a look at it.
The electronics were completely destroyed by the previous owner, which is why they were throwing it out. It looks to have a typical P-Bass setup with the volume and tone knobs and a P-Bass split pickup, so I'm having him order a pre-wired set of P-Bass pots from Guitarfetish.com. I think all he has to do is solder the one wire to the pickup and it will be fixed! The body and neck on the bass are in nice shape, so it will be a nice, quick project. Should be a total investment of about $30 with new electronics and strings, and it will play and look like a brand new bass!
That reminds me, I still have my $15 Epi Les Paul Special II that I have to put back together...

Do you have a schematic? Are you using new iron? I'd be tempted to reuse the same box that the PA is made from and just make a new front to cover up any unused pot openings.
In reply to RossD:
This will be my 5th amp build. First time straying from tweed fender designs.

One of my favorite parts of building an amp is the cabinet design, build and tolexing process.

Reusing the old chassis limits me. And I like to have a cohesive look to all my DIY gear.

I picked up a 10 yard roll of white tolex off CL a decade ago for $10 and am still using it. It takes dye nicely so any color from the automotive vinyl dye section is a possibility.

I still need to remake my 5F1 cabinet and use the tweed roll I have.

My wood working skills and tools have become more plentiful and it almost hurts to share this photo.

Neat. I've been looking at DIY amp kits and YouTube videos. Definitely something I want to start learning in a few years. I'll start out building some pedals first.
I did some shopping, too, as I just picked up a bigger bass amp. It's a 200 watt Gallien-Krueger. Sounds nice and doesn't weigh much.

I forgot about the $20 yard sale score of the Vox T-25 bass amp. It actually sounds shockingly good. Not loud by any means but a fun thing to plunk around on.

The first sheet of steel I grabbed just happened to be 18ga stainless, so that is what I used. Folded and spot welded at the corners.
It's Bianca's birthday so I am taking her out. No amp building this evening.
Free time has been hard to find.
Chassis has some nice porcelain 9 pin sockets riveted in place, IEC socket mounted on the back panel. Power and output transformers are installed and the heater circuits and OT have been wired up. Rotary switch to change the taps from 4-8-16 ohms to the speaker jack. Power and standby switches installed

I was intending to use the rectifier the PA came with but it turns out an EZ80/6V4 is only good for 90ma current draw which is really low for a pair of EL84/6BQ5. I dug around in my stash and have not located an EZ81/6CA4 so I need to order one. I need to order the other tubes anyway.
I am already kicking myself for not adding a tremelo circuit, but the eyelet board is already built and it is a little late now.
I apologize for turning this thread into my amp build. Didn't think it was worth a thread of its own.

We have a build thread for a cosplay costume. A thread for an guitar amp build would be more than welcome.

Yeah, I'd like to see the cabinet build part as well as the electronic part.
If you're wondering about what rectifier, here's pretty technical write up: http://diyaudioprojects.com/Technical/Tube-Power-Supplies/
The guy who wrote it is pretty active on their forum too. I've built some of his designs and they sound nice.
New (to me) bass!

Not too fancy but it's old so it has a cool vibe even if it is just a Fender imitator. Short scale, which I like. With some new strings and a good cleaning I think it will play and sound pretty nice.
Killer deal since it came with the nice RoadRunner case.

Yesterday I placed a pre-order on one of these:
http://eastwoodcustoms.com/projects/eastwood-rd-artist/

Years ago the bass player in my band had a bass version. There was a store in Philly that had NOS examples of the guitars still hanging from their ceiling. I always regretting not buying one, although who knows if I'd still have it. Nobody wanted them back then, but now they're selling for stupid money. Enough that Gibson did a reissue version some years ago. Interestingly, the originals had a 25 1/2" scale, vs. the 24 3/4" Gibson standard. These will apparently have the original scale length.
Not ever being able to leave well enough alone, I'm already thinking of what modifications I'm going to do...

I've been looking for a short-scale lefty Jazz. SX offered some that were pretty nice, but the couple that popped up on eBay went for more than I was willing to pay sight-unseen.
And, just picked up a little bass amp from the local gear shop. I traded one of the many amps sitting in the basement for one of these suckers. Fender recently introduced this new "Rumble" series of amps. I guess they're popular. The store owner said they've been selling them fast.

40W, 10inch speaker, direct out, overdrive channel, and three different tone shaping circuits. It sounds good too. It's got enough oomph and tone that I'll be able to use it for smaller gigs.
The best part: It weighs less than 20lbs. I'm not sure how they accomplished that but I'm sure I will appreciate it since I'll be carrying this thing around almost everyday for lessons and stuff like that.

My nephew has the 20w version (or is it the 15w?) and it is great for a small practice amp. I really like the tone, and the overdrive sounds nice.

I use the 100 watt version for my coffee shop/small gigs. Sounds really nice and you can't beat the weight. The line out works well enough too for larger shows, but then I usually lean on the 8x10.
Been thinking about a Tele for a while and, well, I'm a sucker for a black and maple Fender. It's 15 years old and plays beautifully.

Nice! There's a guy on a local Facebook trading group (dangerous to join, BTW) who is selling a "mutt" Tele that looks similar. If my bank account wasn't hemorrhaging cash right now like crazy due to shed and Mini repairs, I'd check it out. If he still has it next month I might. My old bass player has been bugging me to get a Tele.
A friend of mine has 11 Teles. I saw him this weekend. He was right.
In reply to David S. Wallens:
Cool. I like to think of the Telecaster as the Miata of the guitar world.
Found this on CL. I don't really need another one so I'm trying to fight the temptation but I might not be successful.

I want a Tele partly because it's one of the few guitar styles I haven't really owned. I had a Carvin TL-60 many years ago, but didn't have it for very long (and don't recall why I sold/traded it). So far, the neck of most Tele's I've tried hasn't been to my liking.
I finally got a footswitch for my amp and traded an old multi effects thing for a couple Boss pedals and a fancy-pants pedal board... Until now I've just been using a simple delay and the drive circuit in the amp. It's nothing fancy but I feel like this is the first step down a long dark road

If anyone is interested in a very high end vintage gold-top Les Paul, let me know. Definitely not a grassroots price in the scheme of guitars, but a grassroots price in the scheme of vintage Les Paul's.
