Email the specs to me. While not really my cup of tea, that looks like the sort of guitar my old bass player would love.

The guy I've been corresponding with is named Gary. http://www.tonemanguitar.com/

I got in and soldered the pickups in and inspire of my E36 M3ty soldering skills it sounds great. Clear, bright and dynamic. With a tube amp now I can just roll off the volume a little or roll the tone knob and its super responsive.

I usually don't like guitars like that, but this one looks really cool. Someone is going to want that!

I keep hoping to run across a killer deal on a Peavey T40 with a maple fretboard.

I love my T-60. Perfect tone for slide guitar.

I love Peaveys. I have a Dynabass 5 string and I carry a Foundation 4 string in the trunk during work travels. I should have bought a T40 when they were selling in the 200 range a few years ago. Now it seems 450 is a bargain price and 550-600 is becoming normal.

I remember playing a Foundation ages ago when my friend bought one. It played and sounded great. Very solid bass. Peavey basses always fly under the radar. Aren't most of them USA made?

I've had a thing for maple fretboards lately. I'd love to find something like a T40 or even an 80's Foundation with one.

It seems they are staring to get a little more popular and are losing some of the hidden gem status.

A good portion of them are US made. They are solid workhorses.

I have always preferred the look of maple fretboards but most of my instruments have had the more common rosewood. I never let it get in the way of a good deal. All 3 of my current basses have dark boards.

This was my first electric, a Peavey LTD. It was a brilliant guitar but I eventually traded it for a Telecaster because I liked the neck shape better. I kinda wish I had it back.

All of my basses and guitars have dark fretboards too. Most are rosewood, but my Warwick has some wacko wood (either wenge or ovangkol) and I think my Goth Thunderbird has an ebony board. I used to have a Samick P-Bass copy that had a maple board. I wish I kept it around; I gave it to a friend long ago and he threw it away.

Also, I just ordered a pair of these for practicing:

AKG K52 Headphones

Usually $50, on sale for $30. I've been looking for a good set of studio headphones without paying a ton of money. They also have a lower frequency rate so I might actually hear my bass when I play it through my Pocket Pod.

I also ordered a new set of heavy gauge strings for one of the basses. Although I broke a string on my Ibanez TR70, I may put these on my Thunderbird to test a theory. I have a strange buzz on my A-string, and I can't tell if it's the string loose in the nut or if the neck needs to be tweaked. We'll see!

Anyone ever play one of these?

It's a Squier '51 Vintage Modified. Early Strat body with some Tele features and a bridge humbucker. I love the way this thing looks. Someone has one for sale locally for $130. You can get one brand new for $200. Hmm...

If you like the neck profile they are cool.

I finally had a chance to try out my new Carvin head & hear back the results. Here are a couple live tracks from practice Sunday: Theodicy and The Future These were straight out of the head & into the board without any EQ at the console, or during mix down. It's been a long struggle to find a tone that didn't get buried in the mix, but I think I'm on the right track finally!

I am in the process of restoring an old bass and needed to practice making the pickguard. After a few trials on scrap abs sheet thought I was doing well enough to test it on the real material.

I had a sheet of triple ply tortoise shell from a past project so I went about duplicating the pickguard from the 51.

The flush trim bit cut beautifully but my bevel bit kicked back a lot, leaving a few rough edges that needed to be filed out . I am guessing it is just too dull.

But man! Black, chrome and beef jerky sure do look great together.

I don't even play guitar and I want this!

Jumper K. Balls wrote: Opinion time. I want to move this guitar on. photo 20130810_173925_zps1bc97135.jpg Just a cheap Squier 51 that has been modded with a Jazzmaster Tremelo and upgraded pickups. Dimarzio ToneZone in the neck and a TV jones T-90 in the bridge. I have had it up for sale locally in the past for $175 with no offers that weren't "a lot of marijuana". The price seemed decent to me for a guitar with almost $200 in pickups alone in it. I sold it on eBay once for $150 but the buyer backed out. The question is, would I have better luck moving it on with the extra Duncan 59 I have laying around in the bridge position? Or should I just slap the stock pickups back in and try to give it away for $75? It is a fine little guitar if you like this particular Tele neck, which I don't..... at all. Also if I make at least one instrument disappear the lady of the house will be less likely to be critical if the AC15 that I have my eye on comes home to live with us.

The latest find:

IMG_1553

It's a 1998 (or '99) Mexican-made Fender Precision Bass fitted with a Seymour Duncan pickup. It thumps nicely, and the neck feels great.

Price was 199 American dollars.

I have always wanted a silver jet. As a matter of fact it was watching Billy Zoom in "Decline of western civilization" that made my 14 year old self go guitar shopping in the spring of '88.
