As Uncle Mr Asa, I get to do all sorts of things that my friends regret
In this case, I'm gonna build a couple slingshots for my favorite kiddos. Found a couple great looking forks from an oak while I was finally cleaning up the future firewood that the various hurricanes dropped in my yard.
I've got these two drying in the garage. It'll be a minimum of 6 months before I can play with them. What sort of elastic should I use for them? Traditional leather for the sling?
Other things to think of while I build these?
Surgical rubber tubing is the standard. If you really wanted to rough it, you could cut a strip from a bicycle or other inner tube.
Spend some time watching The Slingshot Channel. Let me show you its features...

I know all about JoergS. He wandered into a forum I was a part of back when he first started building. Fun watching him build more and more whacky things.
I've used bicycle inner tubes to great effect. It has a hard limit but if you keep the thing indoors it should last for a long time. Multiple fine strips are better than a large single strip.
Fun fact, if you hit those little utility marker flags, they'll rip right out. Very satisfying.
Seems to me this is one of those things the kids should be making for themselves. You can give them some pointers, but the whole point is for them to figure it out on their own.
Um...children, themselves, are child sized weapons of mass destruction, in the wrong hands.
