Punk started for me in 1980 at an Iggy Pop - Bad Brains - Black Market Baby show at the Ontario Theater in DC. I ended up a drummer, touring nationally and internationally in many "uneasy listening" bands.
I love the old stuff, but nothing new has had the effect on me that OFF! has.
Keith Morris (Black Flag, Circle Jerks), Dimitri Coats (Burning Brides), Steven McDonald (Redd Kross) and Mario Rubalcaba (Hot Snakes/Earthless/Rocket From The Crypt)
It's the first punk record in decades I can't stop listening to. There's a new album, and a compilation of their first 4 song ep + everything else.
I had the incredibly good fortune to be hear about a secret Scream show in LA (while I happened to be in LA) a couple years ago. Opening was some band called OFF! I'd never heard of, and they were filming their 4 song ep, doing it live, straight through.
OFF! - 4 songs, 4 minutes.

Wow, that's a veritable "super group".
Also, a couple of decent (contemporary) bands from my local scene:
Hootenanny
taco leg
Aaaaand, something a little older: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EK8xvP8uNGY&feature=related (post-punk, I suppose).
I've always like the song "Invisible" by Rocket from the Crypt. Good stuff

When the Dead Milkmen played here last week, they did a Wipers cover. Which made me wonder whether every stop on the tour had its own local-band cover?

Kinda glad this thread made a comeback.
I recently purchased (like with real money, at a store) the newest Pennywise disc. Physical medica FTW! Anyhow, most of you probably know Jim Lindberg (the lead singer since forever) left the band in 2009. He was replaced by Zoli.....something. I have to say, I was not expecting much, but Pennywise has been in my daily rotation always... figured why not. I have to say-
I was pleasantly surprised. Where Jim seemed to have lost a little steam over the last couple albums and Pennywise seemed to slow down a step as a result, Zoli brings it back. I haven't heard them play this hard since.... the late 90's? Now it does seem as if they're maybe trying TOO hard to bring it back old school (gratuitious use of the f--word) they're clearly feeling their oats. Given that the band is goin' on 25 years old... or is it 30? It says a lot to me. And if you never really listened to them to begin with, it might be a breath of fresh air for you. I'll miss Jim as the lead, but I don't have a problem with Zoli lighting a fire under Fletcher, Byron and Randy's asses. We need more asskicking and less whining now anyhow.

WHAT!?!?!? Holy E36 M3! Please tell me I didn't miss an Atlanta show!!! And yeah, that looks to be the case. I'm surprised people in DC weren't climbing the berkeleying walls on this one:

Thanks for the share.
Holy E36 M3. BIG PLUS ONE!!! Wasn't there another punk band called "OFF" back in the day? Good to see people berkeleying dancing again at a punk show.
And apparently their tour van runs on WVO. Rad.

This awesome to hear. I can easily say that Pennywise was and still is my favorite band. I totally agree the recent albums since "Land of the Free" has steadily gone down hill, but I still liked all their albums. I'd had to say "Full Circle" is their best album. Grew up listening to them in middle school all the way to today. This is good to hear that Zoli has reignited their passion again. It is similar to Sublime I would imagine. Since they have added Rome, you can tell they are fresh again. I like Rome and I like Zoli, so there won't be a problem from me

I had honestly never heard much of Zoli prior to this album. For some reason he sort of reminds me of Fat Mike from NOFX. Not that that's a bad thing, but I keep hearing little NOFX undertones in it.
Also agreed on Full Circle. First time I heard Bro Hymn (Tribute) it blew my mind. To this day easily my favorite song. Got to see them once before Jim left- and when they played it, the freakin ROOF blew off the place. Never been in a more electric environment in my life.
