Lexington KY to Gainesville FL???

Birdlady and I are hoping to attend a wedding in Lexington on Thurs, Oct 19. I am mulling over options involving renting a car and making a longer trip of it. I'd love to attend the challenge, even as a spectator. My current thoughts are to fly in to KY on Wed, the 18th, rent a car, do wedding on Thurs, and travel south on Friday. Spend the weekend doing car stuff, and fly home to WA from Gainesville. 

Learn me worthwhile stops and routes from Lexington to Gainesville, places to stay, etc. 

Birdlady isn't a huge car fan, but I am hopeful I can find something for her to do as well.

I'm in Lexington and plan to attend the Challenge with at least the Zoomboni and possibly a second entry as well.  If you want to hitch a ride down you're welcome to provided you're interesting people and don't have offensive habits/odors
