My Great Uncle, the last I have and one of the last people to survive Pearl Harbor passed today. After a great life that saw him fight against the Japanese from one end of the Pacific to the other, to being a Devout Father and Husband to finally retiring to traveling, boat building, and rock hounding, has finally passed.
While I would not want his nightmares, he was part of the fleet that rescued our men from the Philipeans and was aboard the USS Indianapolis, he made up for them with a lifetime of travel, love, care, and just generally being a Gentleman.
God Speed
Here, here. God speed to your Uncle.
A life well lived, God Speed.

My condolences. I also had a Great Uncle who was at Pearl Harbor, but he passed away about 10 years ago. He was the youngest of my grandmother's siblings.
My condolences as well. It's sad that the men and women who lived through that horror are going away; the first hand accounts will no longer be told and that's a shame.
Was he in the service at Pearl Harbor? So many great people rushed to sign up after that day, we tend to forget how many people were already in the fight at that point. Sorry for your loss.

I'm sorry for your loss- I always wished I could have heard more from my Grandfather (both actually, though only one would have been possible as the other died shortly before I was born) about his time in the Navy. As it were all that I ever really heard were the surprisingly heartwarming stories about his time in Japan after the war.
Having coincidentally just read about it, was he on the Indianapolis when it was sunk? If so- he sure as hell deserved a long and peaceful life after that!
