I need a wifi router for a 2 story 1200 sqft townhouse. What's the current favorite?
Linksys E8450, fairly cheap and you have the option of installing OpenWRT on it to work around any firmware issues.
I've bought and killed a number of cheap routers. How and why they die? No idea, aside from cheap shoddy construction. I broke down and bought a unifi dream machine and it's been flawless for several years now...
I use midrange consumer routers reflashed with OpenWRT or DD-WRT and I've hardly had any hardware failures...I've set up a few TP-Link Archer C7s with no failures from that model so far.
