I thought the idea was to buy a $4000 ultra light bike so you can put this 10lb lock on it... 
( and I still would love to assemble a cheap parts made road bike....)

I didn't buy the first bike I linked to, it was a very cheap frame with crappy, worn out components.
So, I bought another fixie/single speed. It's a very, very barely used Alpha Mercury with a flip flop single speed/ fixed hub. It ticked all the boxes I wanted in a commuter (freewheel yet single speed, braze ons for a rack/water bottle, bull horns, slower gearing, steel frame, two real brakes, flat pedals, and comfy geometry) for the very wallet friendly sum of $175. I figure I would have spent almost that much changing the fixie over to what I wanted, and this way I still keep my fixie as an aggressive road bike for weekend rides.
I threw a rack, some lights, and a frame pump (all stuff I had laying around) on it, and can say it's absolutely perfect. It rides almost as well as my fixie, which cost three times as much. I know this isn't the best frame around, but I'm very happy with it. Here's a picture (sans panniers and bottle cage):
Well, okay, I'll admit that it isn't as beat up/ nasty as a real commuter should be, but I have a 25 mile round trip daily ride to work, so I wasn't willing to stoop too low. Also, I hate to say this, but I take pride in what I show up to work on/in, even if it is a bicycle. For that reason I wanted it to be shiiiiiiinnnnny!
25miles daily.. it will not take long for it to look like E36 M3.
Well, I'm not seeing us being able to enable you too much with that bike. It's already nice enough for a beater. Sometimes, buying the exact thing you want is the best option.
Well, the lock got here today, and I finished setting up the bike. I replaced the women's seat that came with it, added a trunk bag, a bottle cage, and some safety wire to secure the seat (soon to be replaced with a spare chain wrapped in an inner tube), and called it a day. Here's a picture of it locked up (I know a tree is a bad idea. I wanted to try my locking method, and my front yard isn't exactly filled with bike racks).
Anything I can improve (normally I wouldn't leave the lights and bag on it)?

Only 10 lbs? I've never weighed it but It certainly feels heavier than that! It's easily over half the weight of my (admitedly light, but not $4000 worth of light) bike.
