went by a huge log yard today.. they had sprinklers going over the stacks of logs... just wondering why they do this?

IIRC it has to do with preventing the logs from rotting/decaying/getting attacked by bugs much more than it has to do with fire danger.

A Google search shows that it is a EPA requirement to cut down on particulate emissions (dust).
