1991 2.3L 5 speed ranger. Runs well. Needs new ignition and the clutch master cylinder fixed, but the leak is small. The interior is in mediocre condition and the heat works. The exterior is.... meh... and will receive some love. Not as fast as my escort, but it gets good mileage and will haul the small stuff around.

How much, you ask?
$650.00

That's less than it cost to fix my F150's last mishap.

I'm glad the typical GRM'r doesn't live in my neighborhood.

Not that it's nice, but the rust buckets you folks are attracted to definitely wouldn't help.

That's right. The bigger workhorse is in the background. The only body rust is actually on the bed and I may fix that... maybe. The funny thing is, right now, the ignition switch is not working, so the quick fix for the guy was to run some speaker wire to jump the solenoid. Turn the key, touch the wires, she fires right up!

Oh.. and the inspection was already done.

I would love to have an old Ranger as a DD but I am gigantic.

ROFL! Seems like the old racers' screed "I'd rather be lucky than good!" is sometimes true with street cars as well!

Clutch hydraulics on Rangers is almost always a leaking slave- you know, the one you have to drop the trans to get to...

The master is broken below the clutch pedal which broke the safety switch. The clutch still works, it just leaks.

I wore out my 3rd ignition tumbler and did this "modification" to my Escort. Careful because on some Fords the cooling fan relay uses the starter solenoid as the ground. So disconnecting the wire to the solenoid effectively stops your radiator cooling fans from working.

I was shocked by how little the old rangers trade hands for. Until I discovered the terrible mpg's of even the 4 cyl's (which are hard to find) I was seeking one as a DD.
I have seen several v6's sell for around $500 here, all needing pretty minor work, running and driving and inspected.
I even looked at a '97 ext cab v6 automatic with 170k on it for $900. drove well, but the mileage was abysmal.

I may keep it a push button start. Idon't think it will effect the clutch fan much.

Hmmm... If the master cylinder doesn't fix the starter problem, I have a plethora of options.

I'll havea safety switch in line, so the starter cannot be activated accidentally. What should I put next to that? Momentary push-button. Light up push button? Momentary toggle? I think they'd all be cool. Any suggestions?

Master cylinder took care of it all. It fired up once with the switch, but someone berkeleyed up the harness, so i just tied the wires. Runs well and it will take some time getting used to a 100 hp truck after driving a 140 hp car for so long.

I had to cut the old master off with a Leatherman. PITA. Installation was a breeze.

I'm just gonna mention the weak clutch slave cylinders again now, just in case you were intending to not change it while you have the trans out...

Oh, yeah. If that transmission is coming down, that slave will be "serviced" as well. In fact with the new more improved master, that slave is ready to go.
