Heading to Florida at the end of June and plan on stopping at Mammoth Caves on the way down.
Has anyone been there recently and can make a suggestion on the tours?
Family of 6, granted smallest one will be carried in a sling by my wife.
I'm seeing the "star chamber" tour that is done by laterns as well as the normal tours.
It's been 25 years since I've been there.

+1. Might be going there this summer as well. I went when I was a kid and can't wait to take the little boosts there.

All I remember is that it was really cool, and we saw the Corvette museum on the same day, which is also really cool.
So yeah, sorry, it was about 8 or 9 years ago now.
i started going there with my family in the 80's. we went there a few months ago. we took our 20 month old on the historic tour, and the 400+ steps were a bear. i carried him up the 155 steps of the mammoth dome. it includes a trip through an area called "fat man's misery" that would be a killer with the baby in sling. my son walked it fine but even i had a rough time.
i recommend you do the frozen niagara tour. it is 1/4 mile, a little over an hour, and it has 12 steps with more optional ones. it takes you to the prettiest part of the cave for natural formations.
the mammoth passage tour should also be fun and pretty easy carrying the baby, but there are lots of uneven steps up and down to the cave
expect some big time shock with the new visitor center. i had not been there since they built it and was expecting the quaint old school one from my childhood.
I'm ashamed that I live about 35 minutes away and have never been :(
Both of you. Go today after work and report back! smh...
Man it has been a while since I have been. The main cave tours (like historic or new enterance tours) both should be pretty good for a family. There are also plenty of pretty good hiking trails on the surface.
