Well I just got a call that the local Dodge dealer is loaning me a Challenger on Saturday.
I will be shooting an album cover for a local band called "Chrome on the Range", the album will be called "Polished". Their last album cover (that I shot as well) was taken with them walking down the train tracks and 2 trains coming their way from behind.
This time we will be staging the Challenger at a newly opening 50's style Texaco (old pumps and all). Haven't quite got the whole scene planned out yet, but apparently the guy that got me the car also got a couple of girls as well so we will see what I come up with .
Oh my first choice was a bright yellow new Camaro but we had more connections at the Dodge dealer than the Chevy dealer. But heck a bright red Challenger will be nice.
Sounds pretty sweet to me!
Looking forward to seeing the pixxors!
Yeah it should be a fun shoot that is for sure. I thought about getting some of the local hot rodders out to the station for the shoot with their cars but I only know the one and he has a rat rod. Doesn't really go with the whole "polished" title.

Did you get the Challenger at a Challenge-friendly price?
Actually it could, I imagine three or four "unpolished" cars would make the Challenger really pop.

Hmm well does free count?
Granted like I said its only a loan for the day (sadly).
I did think about having a few "unpolished" rigs around though it is a fairly small station and I don't want things to get cluttered.
After the shoot they are heading to a gig so if we decide to do some "play" shots, like them jamming at the station we could as well. I will go by the station and get a couple of scene shots later so you guys can see what I'm working with. Very cool station, owned by the former priest from around here (he retired and now lives in Hawaii).

Retired priest who owns a retro service station in OR and lives in Hawaii??
Does this joke take place in a bar, or rhyme like a limerick?
Well they do call the place "Father Hanks drive through confessional".

I've got one this week too... a friend brought over his 72 for a photo shoot today but it pissed down rain. Unfortunately, I could only get a V6 auto, so the comparo's kind of lop-sided.
Externally, they've captured the essence. It's a beautiful design. Side by side however, the new one is porky, tame.
The 72 is a hairy-chested, butt-scratching muscle-car - my loaner's civilized, a bit bland.
I drove the SRT last year, it was definitely a balls-out, rude muscle car with a whuffling exhaust, heavy clutch and lots of power.
My old boss had a '70 or '71 Challenger that tried and tried to buy off him but he never would sell. The new ones do look good but yeah they are a bit porky compared to the originals.
Went by the dealership today and saw the car, very nice and very bright red.
Here is the station that we will be shooting at (just taken with my PS)
Oh and here is the Cutlass normally parked across the street and our local movie theater with all of 3 screens

That station's perfect, the photo shoot should be great!
Yeah I'm just having trouble thinking of exactly how I want to place things. It is a great location though. A few weeks ago there were about 6 or 7 hot rods parked there sadly I didn't have my camera with me at the time.

Nice score.
Station looks cool as well. There has to be a story with the Priest....
Um...I guess you guys don't get first run movies...do you??
Could you talk to the Cutlass guy and see if you can get his car in the shoot? Or will it not fit in with the look you're going for?
Well we do somtimes normally we get them a week or so late unless they are really big movies. That pic was from back in the summer. There is also a drive in that shows double features $17 for a car load. Oh then on the last weekend of the season its a triple feature, the last showing this season was Ice Age 3, GI Joe and District 9.
As for the Cutlass guy I have tried tracking him down but can't find out who owns it. I think its one of the mechanics at the Chevy dealer but so far no go. Also it really isn't in as good of shape as that photo lets on, the paint is fairly rough.
Well the shoot with the Challenger went well and the weather was great. I will get photos up later.
While there the manager asked if I would come back today and take a photo for them to send into some Mustang magazine that is doing an article about the station. Guess we will have a Mach 1 coming in.

Your job is more interesting than mine!
Well the shoot with the Mustang today was a bit on the frustrating side. First off the guy with the Mach 1 did not show, second the weather was no where near as nice as yesterday, and third I had not been told they need the photos to go out TONIGHT! ARGH! Oh and I was hoping to use my newly acquired D1X for the shoot and of course the battery is toast and the replacements have not arrived yet. So most of the work was done with my trust old D70 and 50mm 1.8. Oh also the shots were not taken 100% how I would normally shoot them, but I had to follow the standard the magazine wanted.
Anyway we did have a modified '09 GT convertible for the shoot so that was alright, and if we need to re shoot I now have a more solid line on another Mach 1 AND a Cobra along with several other cars. The station manager was a real trooper, it was about 40 degree and wind blowing hard and she still was out there for the entire shoot.
Anyway here are a couple of the shots, very minor processing done on them to post online quick will finish the ones for the mag up a bit more (and of course have many others). The girl in the shots is actually the manager of the station.
Oh and being Oregon gas is pumped by the attendant not the driver, and yes they do wear that hat and shirt when pumping.
Oh I have not even looked at the ones for the album cover yet I will get to those this week.
I wish our gas station attendants looked like that.
